1. Cholecystokinin, dopamine and glutamate in subcortical and peripheral control of food intake
Sammanfattning : This thesis analyzes some of the mechanisms whereby cholecystokinin octapeptide (CCK-8) inhibits food intake in male rats. Depletion of monoamines using reserpine blocked the capacity for ingestive responses. These responses were restored in reserpinized rats by treatment with the non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist MK-801. LÄS MER
2. Systemic stress response and hyperglycemia after abdominal surgery in rat and man
Sammanfattning : Surgical trauma results in a complex neuroendocrine and metabolic response known as the systemic stress response, which is initiated by neuronal and humoral signals from the site of the injury. These signals converge at central sites and result in the activation of the hypothalamicpituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, the sympathetic nervous system and an inflammatory response. LÄS MER
3. Physiological and pathophysiological regulation of ECL-cell activity
Sammanfattning : The ECL cells are endocrine/paracrine cells located in the acid-producing part of the stomach. They produce and secrete histamine and chromogranin A-derived peptides in response to circulating gastrin. Mobilized histamine stimulates acid secretion from adjascent parietal cells. LÄS MER
4. Dopamine neurons in ventral mesencephalon : interactions with glia and locus coeruleus
Sammanfattning : Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by a depletion of the dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. The cause of the disease is yet unknown but age, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation are some of the features involved in the degeneration. LÄS MER
5. Disinhibitory and aggressive behavior in the rat. Neurohumoral mechanisms
Sammanfattning : Effective pharmacological treatment for impulsive aggression and dysfunctional impulsive behavior is needed. These behavioral disturbences in man and impulsive-like and aggressive behavior in animals may involve serotonin (5-HT), noradrenaline (NA), GABAA receptors and steroid hormones, e.g. testosterone.
