  1. 1. Developing tools for non-target analysis and digital archiving of organic urban water pollutants

    Författare :Cathrin Veenaas; Peter Haglund; Per Liljelind; Christine Gallampois; Mehran Alaee; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Digital archiving; non-target screening; organic pollutants; sewage sludge; GC-MS; GC×GC; LC-MS; time-trend analysis; retention indices; retention time prediction;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes efforts to develop robust methods for the creation and use of digital archives of environmental samples, and proposes guidelines based on the results. Digital archives are repositories that store environmental samples digitally. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Comprehensive non-target screening to find and identify new biomagnifying organic contaminants in Baltic Sea top consumers

    Författare :Andriy Rebryk; Peter Haglund; Christine Gallampois; Mats Tysklind; Jacob de Boer; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; persistent organic pollutants; contaminants of emerging concern; non-target screening; GC-MS; biomagnification; temporal trends; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi; environmental science; miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The development of industrial processes in the 19th and 20th centuries, in particular oil refining, resulted in a huge discovery and subsequent large-scale production of a variety of chemicals. These useful chemicals supposedly made the everyday lives of people easier and better by, for instance, controlling the spread of diseases such as malaria, through the use of DDT and other organochlorine pesticides (OCPs). 3. 3. Uncharted Waters : Non-target analysis of disinfection by-products in drinking water

    Författare :Anna Andersson; David Bastviken; Henrik Kylin; David Reckhow; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Water treatment technologies; chemical disinfection; FT-ICR MS; bioassays; Vattenreningstekniker; klor; kloramin; FT-ICR MS; effektbaserad analys;

    Sammanfattning : Disinfection by-products (DBPs) are potentially toxic compounds formed when drinking water is treated with disinfectants, such as chlorine or chloramine. A large proportion of the exposure to DBPs is still unknown and the health risks observed through epidemiological studies cannot be explained by DBPs known today. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Targeted and untargeted analysis of organic contaminants from on-site sewage treatment facilities : Removal, fate and environmental impact

    Författare :Kristin Blum; Peter Haglund; Patrik Andersson; Pim Leonards; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; decentralized sewage treatment; wastewater; surface water; environmental fate; bioavailability; removal efficiency; mass fluxes; biochar; environment; GC×GC-MS; LC-IM-MS; mass spectrometry; contaminants; pollutants; prioritization; non-target analysis; screening; analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : On-site sewage treatment facilities (OSSFs) are widely used all over the world to treat wastewater when large-scale sewage treatment plants (STPs) are not economically feasible. Although there is great awareness that the release of untreated wastewater into the environment can lead to water-related diseases and eutrophication, little is known about organic contaminants and their removal by OSSFs, environmental load and fate. 5. 5. Toxicometabolomics and biotransformation product screening in single zebrafish embryos

    Författare :Anton Ribbenstedt; Jonathan P. Benskin; Magnus Breitholtz; Elena Gorokhova; Emma Schymanski; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Non-target; REACH; Orbitrap; single embryo; zebrafish embryo; metabolism; high throughput; hydroxylation; glucuronidation; metabolite screening; phase I; phase II; pharmaceutical; structure elucidation; conjugation; propranolol; beta blocker; Non-targeted; toxicometabolomics; Orbitrap; single embryo; 3R; metabolomics; MoA; mode of action; zebrafish embryo; carbamazepine; biotransformation; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last decade environmental agencies worldwide have escalated their work to phase out animal testing for the purposes of chemical regulation. Meanwhile the number of commercially available chemicals and the requirements for hazard assessments have both increased, creating a large need for substitution of traditional in vivo assays with in vitro tests.
