1. Creating and Probing Extreme States of Materials : From Gases and Clusters to Biosamples and Solids
Sammanfattning : Free-electron lasers provide high intensity pulses with femtosecond duration and are ideal tools in the investigation of ultrafast processes in materials. Illumination of any material with such pulses creates extreme conditions that drive the sample far from equilibrium and rapidly convert it into high temperature plasma. LÄS MER
2. Spark Plasma Sintering of Si3N4-based Ceramics : Sintering mechanism-Tailoring microstructure-Evaluationg properties
Sammanfattning : Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is a promising rapid consolidation technique that allows a better understanding and manipulating of sintering kinetics and therefore makes it possible to obtain Si3N4-based ceramics with tailored microstructures, consisting of grains with either equiaxed or elongated morphology. The presence of an extra liquid phase is necessary for forming tough interlocking microstructures in Yb/Y-stabilised α-sialon by HP. LÄS MER
3. Molecular Beam Epitaxy and Characterisation of GaN-compounds on GaAs(001) and Sapphire(0001)
Sammanfattning : The hexagonal (wurtzite) and the cubic (zinc blende) group-III nitrides and their heterostructures have attracted much attention due to their potential for applications in high-power, high-frequency electronic and optoelectronic devices. The optical emission range of the GaN-based alloys cover the whole visible range from near infrared (IR) to ultraviolet (UV). LÄS MER
4. Quantum electronic transport in low-dimensional semiconductors
Sammanfattning : Electronic transport is studied at low temperatures in two-dimensional electron gases (2DEGs) and in mesoscopic semiconductor microstructures. The method of microwave-detection of the Shubnikov-de Haas effect for the contact-free characterisation of transport properties of 2DEGs is explored using both magnetic-field modulation and light-induced carrier modulation.
