Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two papers dealing with the stochastic dynamic modelling of one communicable and one non-communicable disease respectively. In the first paper we derive a patient- and organ-specific measure for the estimated negative side effects of radiotherapy using a stochastic logistic birth-death process. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : INTRODUCTION: Epidemiological transition theory, first postulated by Omran in 1971, provides a useful framework for understanding cause-specific mortality changes and may contribute usefully to predictions about cause-specific mortality. However, understandings of mortality transitions and associated epidemiological changes remain poorly defined for public health practitioners due to lack of evidence from low- and middle-income countries. Sammanfattning : In the context of transitional Vietnam, although cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been shown to cause a large burden of mortality and morbidity in hospitals, little is known about the magnitude of its burden, risk factor levels and its relationship with socio-demographic status in the overall population. This thesis provides a preliminary insight into population-based knowledge of the CVD epidemiology in rural Vietnam and contributes to the development of methodologies for monitoring it. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : Allergic disease is one of the most common non-communicable diseases in childhood. Both overweight and diet have been hypothesized to influence the risk of allergic disease.
