  1. 1. Etiological aspects of gastroesophageal cancers : an epidemiological approach

    Författare :Shahram Bahmanyar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Nutrition; dietary patterns; factor analysis; esophageal cancer; stomach cancer; gastric; cardia; non-cardia; adenocarcinoma; squamous-cell carcinoma; duodenal ulcer; gastric ulcer; estrogen; parity; risk; case-control study; cohort study; nested case-control study; odds ratio; standardized incidence ratio;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to study the association of overall dietary habits, duodenal ulcer and gastric ulcer diseases, as two models of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and the development of gastroesophageal cancers to further explore the etiology of these malignancies. 2. 2. Helicobacter pylori and its Association with Gastric and Oesophageal Carcinomas

    Författare :Henrik Simán; Internmedicin - epidemiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gastroenterologi; Gastro-enterology; Western blot; CagA; Helicobacter pylori; Gastric adenocarcinoma; Oesophageal carcinoma;

    Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori is one of the most common infections in man. The infection is often acquired during childhood and usually results in a chronic life-long inflammation in the gastric mucosa. The aim of our studies was to investigate the association between H. pylori seropositivity and the development of gastric and oesophageal carcinomas. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Factors related to the occurrence of gastric adenocarcinoma subtypes

    Författare :Anna Mia Ekström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :gastric; cancer; incidence; trend; cardia; Laurén; histologic; misclassification; antioxidant; completeness; vegetable; fruit; occupation; phenoxy; metal; forestry; Helicobacter pylori; smoking;

    Sammanfattning : Gastric cancer is the second most common cancer worldwide, but the etiology remains poorly understood. A spontaneous global decline has reduced the number of victims in most Western countries while Japan and China have screening programs in place due to the magnitude, and the serious prognosis, of this malignant disease. 4. 4. Sex hormones in gastric mucosal physiology and the development of oesophageal, gastric and colorectal adenocarcinoma

    Författare :Richard Shore; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to continue to test the hypothesis that sex hormones play some part in the aetiology and seem to protect women from the development of oesophageal, gastric, and colorectal adenocarcinoma. All three of these cancers display an as yet unexplained male predominance in their respective worldwide incidence rates. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Roles of Helicobacter pylori infection, host genetic variation, and other environmental exposures in gastric carcinogenesis

    Författare :Christina Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Despite a general declining secular trend of incidence in most parts of the world, stomach cancer is still a major cause of cancer-related death worldwide due to its poor prognosis. Although Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is an established risk factor for stomach cancer, the true magnitude of the association is still not determined. LÄS MER
