  1. 1. Retarded sorption in wood : experimental study, analyses and modeling

    Författare :Håkan Håkansson; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building construction; transient; non-linear model; swelling-shrinkage; latent heat effect; history-dependent sorption; anomalous sorption; non-Fickian; retarded sorption; measurements; moisture; wood; Byggnadsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Models of moisture flow processes in wood are normally based on a Fickian approach. In many instances, there are considerable discrepancies between modelling and experimental results. It is shown in this thesis that a major cause for these discrepancies is a so-called retarded sorption which is not accounted for in conventional theories. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies of water vapor transport and sorption in wood

    Författare :Lars Wadsö; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; evaluation; measurements; non-Fickian behavior; absorption; sorption method; transient; unsteady-state; wood; sorption; surface mass transfer coefficient; water vapor; error analysis;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the evaluation of measurements of water vapor transport and sorption in wood. It mainly concerns measurements of the weight response of a sample after a step change in relative humidity. The thesis consists of an introduction and eight papers. The eight papers have the following contents: 1. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Theoretical Investigation into Longitudinal Dispersion in Natural Rivers — A Scaling Dispersion Model

    Författare :Zhi-Qiang Deng; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik; Environmental technology; pollution control; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; offshore technology; hydraulic engineering; Civil engineering; Scaling dispersion.; Parameter estimation; Numerical scheme; Dispersion coefficient; Natural river;

    Sammanfattning : Using a broad variety of scientific methods this dissertation systematically investigates the fundamental mechanisms underlying the dispersion processes in natural rivers and their mathematical descriptions in a geometrical framework. Emphasis is on the geometrical variations and irregularities of a natural river and their scales. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Stochastic analysis of fluid flow and tracer pathways in crystalline fracture networks

    Författare :Andrew Frampton; Vladimir Cvetkovic; Allen Shapiro; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Groundwater; Fractured media; Transport; Retention; Macrodispersion; Lagrangian formulation; Stochastic modelling; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Hydrology; Hydrologi; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding groundwater flow systems and how these control transport is an essential part in assessing the suitability of subsurface environments as hosts for storage of toxic waste. Therefore it is important to be able to integrate knowledge obtained from field characterisation of the subsurface with methods which can be used to evaluate and predict possible impact on surrounding environments. 5. 5. Moisture transport processes in Scots pine - Anomalous capillary suction. Nonisothermal diffusion

    Författare :Ingemar Segerholm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; moisture transport coefficients; nonisothermal; anomalous capillary suction; flux equation; phenomenological approach; wood;

    Sammanfattning : Moisture transport processes in wood have become increasingly important with the growing use of wood as construction material. This thesis deals with two key processes: capillary suction and nonisothermal diffusion. In the study on capillary suction, several methods were used. LÄS MER
