  1. 1. The impact of railway vibration and noise on sleep

    Författare :Michael Smith; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; railway vibration; noise; sleep disturbance; polysomnography; cardiovascular disease;

    Sammanfattning : Sleep is a vital component of good health, and sleep loss is associated with impaired cognition, decreased psychomotor performance, cardiovascular disease, adverse effects on endocrine and metabolic function, negative mood, impaired memory, and more. A growing burden of freight transportation on global railway networks will likely lead to an increase in nocturnal vibration and noise at nearby dwellings. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Tyre-road Interaction: a holistic approach to noise and rolling resistance

    Författare :Tiago Vieira; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Ulf Sandberg; Anders Genell; Hans Jonasson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pavement; surface; texture; noise; rolling resistance; tyre; Vägbeläggning; vägyta; textur; buller; rullmotstånd; däck; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Energy dissipation, fuel consumption, real-estate property prices and health issues are some of the aspects related to the tyre/pavement interaction and its functional properties of rolling resistance and noise. The first two aspects are affected by the tyre/road interaction as energy is dissipated mostly by hysteretic losses as the tyre is subjected to dynamic deformations when contacting the pavement surface. 3. 3. Offshore wind farms - ecological effects of noise and habitat alteration on fish

    Författare :Mathias H. Andersson; Sören Nylin; Magnus Wahlberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; renewable energy; fish population; artificial reef; attraction vs. production; habitat structure; reef effect; FAD; bioacoustics; noise disturbance; fish behaviour; detection range; threshold; masking; fish communication and hearing; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : There are large gaps in our understanding how fish populations are affected by the anthropogenic noise and the alteration of habitat caused by the construction and operation of offshore wind farms. These issues are of great importance as the construction of offshore wind farms will increase all over the world in the near future. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Influence of Acoustic Interaction between Cavities That Generate Cavitation Noise

    Författare :Jan Hallander; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; numerical simulation; collapse of vapour cavities; experimental studies; pressure pulses; cavitation noise; hydrodynamics; cavitation; bubbles; cavitating flows;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns high frequency cavitation noise generated by marine propellers, for example. The collapse of a cavity is forced by the surrounding pressure which comprises the pressure in the undisturbed flow, the pressure disturbance associated with the local non-cavitating flow and, finally, the pressure disturbance from the presence and motion of neighbouring cavities. 5. 5. Employees with Aided Hearing Impairment : An Interdisciplinary Perspective

    Författare :Håkan Hua; Björn Lyxell; Claes Möller; Stephen Widén; Gunnel Backenroth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hearing impairment; cognitive skills; noise; labor market; Hörselnedsättning; kognitiva förmågor; buller; arbetsmarknad;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden 13% of the general adult population (16-84 years), with or without hearing aids (HAs), report that they have difficulties following a conversation when more than two people are involved. This means that more than one million people in Sweden (9 500 000 inhabitants in total) report subjective hearing difficulties. LÄS MER
