6. The significance of sexuality and cyst formation in the life-cycles of four marine dinoflagellate species
Sammanfattning : Sexuality and cyst formation were studied in the marine dinoflagellate species Gymnodinium catenatum Graham, Gymnodinium nolleri Ellegaard ? Moestrup, Alexandrium catenella (Whedon et Kofoid) Balech, and Lingulodinium polyedrum (Stein) Dodge. The study included the morphological characterization of sexual stages and processes, the time and description of meiosis, the study of the length and regulation of the mandatory dormancy period of resting cysts, and the relationships among parental strains and cyst progeny at phenotypic and molecular levels. 7. Modelling of molybdopterin-dependent enzymes
Sammanfattning : The thesis deals with models for molybdopterin-dependent enzymes. Several model systems containing molybdenum or tungsten have been prepared and characterised, and their reactivity with oxygen atom acceptors and donors have been investigated. LÄS MER
8. Reaction kinetics of NH3-SCR over Cu-CHA from first principles
Sammanfattning : Ammonia-assisted selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) is an advanced technology to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from lean-burn engines. NH3 is added to the exhaust gas and reacts selectively with NOx, forming N2 and H2O. LÄS MER
9. Structural studies on aerobic and anaerobic respiratory complexes
Sammanfattning : All respiratory pathways, whether aerobic or anaerobic, are based on formation of an electrochemical proton gradient called proton motive force (pmf) that drives ATP formation. Membrane-bound respiratory complexes translocate protons across the membrane from a region of low [H+] and negative electrical potential to a region of high [H+] and positive electrical potential. 10. Studies of platelet signalling and endothelial cell responses using unique synthetic drugs
Sammanfattning : Haemostasis is a complex and tightly regulated process which protects us from bleeding. Platelets are essential for maintained haemostasis. Under normal conditions platelets are calmed by antithrombotic substances release by the endothelium. During vascular injury, the platelets will activate and form a haemostatic plug to prevent bleeding. LÄS MER
