17. Non-nutritive sucking in the neonate
Sammanfattning : Non-nutritive sucking (NNS) by the newborn infant is a fundamental behaviour and is one of the first coordinated muscular activities in the foetus. A new specially designed computer-based method for automatic analysis of the NNS pattern in neonates has been produced. LÄS MER
18. Pain relief following cesarean section : short and long term perspectives

It is also important that pain treatment should have minimal impact on the newborn. LÄS MER
19. Initiation of ventilation, surfactant treatment, and lung function after preterm birth
Sammanfattning : The thesis investigates lung function and the effects of rescue surfactant treatment in mechanically ventilated preterm human infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), and the effects of ventilation at birth on the response to surfactant supplementation in preterm lambs. To assess lung function, the author recorded static pressure-volume (P-V) curves during passive deflation from total lung capacity (TLC) to ambient pressure and measured end-expiratory lung volume (FRC) during mechanical ventilation by tracer gas washout. 20. Care for the New-Born : Breastfeeding and Skin-to-Skin Contact
