  1. 1. Neutron scattering studies of hard metals

    Författare :Ahmet Bahadir Yildiz; Peter Hedström; Annika Borgenstam; Joakim Odqvist; Daniele Mari; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hard metals; cemented carbides; small angle neutron scattering; neutron diffraction; in-situ characterization; grain coarsening; phase separation; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Since their discovery about 100 years ago, tools made of hard metals have been the enablers of development in various areas: from drilling subway lines for more sustainable cities to the machining of complex next-generation airplane engine parts for reduced CO2 emissions. An increase in properties of hard metals thus leads to efficient operations with shorter lead-time, less environmental footprint, and reduced cost. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Quantification of local lattice distortions in refractory high-entropy alloys by scattering-based techniques

    Författare :Yao Hu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Refractory high-entropy alloys; X-ray diffraction; local lattice distortion; pair distribution function; neutron scattering; total scattering;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing demand for advanced structural materials for use in extreme conditions, particularly including the aerospace applications, has promoted the development of refractory high-entropy alloys (RHEAs). A deeper understanding of the interaction between microstructure and properties is essential to overcome the scientific challenges associated with these alloys. LÄS MER

  3. 3. High-sensitivity Radioactive Xenon Monitoring and High-accuracy Neutron-proton Scattering Measurements

    Författare :Cecilia Johansson; Jan Blomgren; Nils Olsson; Allena Opper; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Monte Carlo simulations; MCNP; xenon detection; detector response; neutron detection; elastic scattering; differential cross section; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Sammanfattning : Two aspects of applied nuclear physics have been studied in this thesis; Monte Carlo simulations for high-sensitivity monitoring of radioactive xenon and high-accuracy neutron-proton scattering measurements for neutron physics applications and fundamental physics. The Monte Carlo simulations have been performed for two systems for detection of radioactive xenon, using the MCNP code. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Local structure in disordered materials studied by neutron scattering and RMC modelling

    Författare :Liselotte Karlsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Local structure; neutron scattering; RMC modelling; metallic glasses; high Tc; superconductors; fast ion conductors; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Physics Of Matter; materiefysik;

    Sammanfattning : Different disordered materials are becoming more and more important in various technological applications.
