21. Biochemical and biophysical aspects of molecular recognition and signalling by neurotrophins
Sammanfattning : Neurotrophins are members of a family of structurally and functionally related neurotrophic factors that control the development and maintenance of the nervous system. There are currently 5 members which make up this family: nerve growth factor (NGF), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), neurotrophin-3 (NT-3), neurotrophin-4(NT-4) and neurotrophin-6 (NT-6), which so far is only described in fish. 22. Mechanisms of Hyperexcitability in the Kindling Model of Epilepsy
Sammanfattning : Epilepsy is a syndrome characterized by recurring attacks of sudden, excessive and synchronous discharge in populations of cerebral neurons. Kindling is an animal model for complex partial epilepsy, and is particularly useful for studies on the development of the abnormal excitability underlying the generation and spread of epileptic seizures. 23. Specificity of neurotrophins in the nervous system : a genetic approach to determine receptor engagement by neurotrophins
Sammanfattning : The classical neurotrophic factor hypothesis describes the neurotrophins as retrograde signalling factors supporting the survival of postmitotic neurons during the development. Knock-out mice for the neurotrophins and/or their receptors have been generated and their analyses gave new insights in the temporal expression and particular functions of these factors during development. 24. Changes in sensory systems during aging : an experimental study in the rat
Sammanfattning : Aging is associated with sensorimotor disturbances, including increased proprioceptive thresholds. The present study aimed to clarify the occurrence of structural and biochemical alterations in sensory systems of behaviorally characterized aged rats. LÄS MER
25. Studies on neurotrophins in inflammatory pulmonary diseases
Sammanfattning : Asthma, sarcoidosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are inflammatory pulmonary diseases, all being characterized by tissue inflammation, tissue damage (airway remodeling) and loss of lung function. In order to increase possibilities to find new biomarkers, drug targets and better treatment options for the patients, further research on the underlying mechanisms driving the inflammation and airway remodeling in these diseases are required.
