11. Regulation of neurotrophins and their receptors : molecular aspects and functional implications
Sammanfattning : The aim of this work was to study the regulation of neurotrophins and their receptors in a functional aspect. The studies included analysis of neuronal and glial neurotrophin gene expression, that was investigated by using molecular biological techniques. LÄS MER
12. Spinal cord injury : mechanical and molecular aspects
Sammanfattning : Traumatic spinal cord injury leads to full or partial paralysis and loss of sensation below the level of injury. The annual incidence of spinal cord injury in the United States is 3-5 per 100,000 and in Sweden is 1.5-2 per 100,000. This translates to 11,000 new cases of traumatic spinal cord injury in the US and 150 in Sweden each year. LÄS MER
13. On Nogo signaling regulation
Sammanfattning : As neuronal development enters its final stages, axon growth becomes restricted. This lack of regenerative capacity is partly due to the non-permissive environment of growth inhibitory proteins. Three such proteins, Nogo, OMgp and MAG bind to the same receptor, the Nogo receptor (NgR) and induce growth cone collapse and axon growth inhibition. LÄS MER
14. Observations on morphology and function of cutaneous and subcutaneous sensory mechanoreceptors : an experimental study in mammals
Sammanfattning : Tactile sensory discrimination is dependent upon an intact system of peripheral mechanoreceptors, their nerve fibre afferents with cell bodies in the dorsal root ganglion and the dorsal column-medial lemniscal system which relays tactile information from the skin to the cortex. Injury to any part of the afferent pathways leads to compromised mechanoreceptive perception. LÄS MER
15. Trophic factors, neuroprotection and spinal cord repair
Sammanfattning : Background: There is no cure for paralysis. The only drug therapy presently in use, acute high-dose methylprednisolone, has only modest effects on outcome. There is therefore a great need for new therapies. LÄS MER
