6. Neuroplasticity and neurorestoration in the treatment of Parkinson's Disease: Experimental studies in the mouse
Sammanfattning : Neuroplasticity is the brain´s capacity to respond to inner and outer challenges with functional and structural reorganizations. An aberrant activation of neuroplasticity pathways may contribute to the development of neurological disease. LÄS MER
7. Balance and gait in Parkinson’s disease : from perceptions to performance
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore perceptions and performance of balance and gait in people with Parkinson’s disease (PwPD), and to evaluate both the current evidence for exercise-induced neuroplasticity and the feasibility of investigating exercise-induced neuroplastic changes among PwPD. This thesis includes four papers of different designs; a qualitative interview study (paper I), a systematic review and meta-analysis (paper II), a pilot RCT (paper III) and a crosssectional study (paper IV). 8. Significance of white matter anatomy in interpreting features and behaviour of low-grade gliomas and implications for surgical treatment
Sammanfattning : Diffuse gliomas are extremely heterogeneous tumours characterized by slow growth but extensive infiltration. Their kinetic features reflect the complex interaction over time with the surrounding brain, influencing treatment planning and outcome. LÄS MER
9. Perception of Computer Games in Non-Gaming Contexts
Sammanfattning : As computer games have evolved from single-player entities to complex, highly communicative on-line game worlds, their potential to fill different roles in society has grown. One aspect of this change is that various forms of computer mediated communication may become increasingly associated with games in various ways. LÄS MER
10. BDNF, impulsiveness and avoidant focused coping in suicide attempters
Sammanfattning : Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is an important protein for neuroplasticity and neurogenesis. In this thesis the role of BDNF, in suicidal behaviour was investigated with focus on possible risk factors for suicidal behaviour such as avoidant focused coping, dysfuntional personality traits like impulsiveness and hyperactivity of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis.
