  1. 11. Models and biomarkers of motor and neuropsychiatric complications in Parkinson’s disease

    Författare :Katrine Skovgård; Basala gangliernas patofysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Parkinson s disease Parkinsonism; Dyskinesia; Drug-Induced; Oscillations; Local field potentials; Impulsive-compulsive behaviours; Dopamine agonists; Animal Models; Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterised by typicalmotor symptoms that are caused by severe dopamine depletion in the cortico-basalganglia network. Parkinsonian motor symptoms are improved by dopaminergicmedications, the most effective being the dopamine precursor L-DOPA. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Synaptic plasticity in drug abuse disorders : studies of the human post-mortem brain

    Författare :Anna Ökvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Drug addiction is a chronic disorder characterized by craving and compulsive drug use despite adverse consequences and high rates of relapse during periods of abstinence. Therapeutic interventions for most addiction disorders are limited today, partly because the underlying neurobiology is still unknown. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Effects of PGC1a-induced exercise adaptations in muscle on plasticity and recovery mechanisms in the CNS

    Författare :Lars O Karlsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muscle; brain; exercise; transgenic; PGC-1α; FNDC5; irisin;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, we sought to determine if muscle-derived exercise-induced signaling via PGC-1α muscle activation influences neuroplasticity under physiological or pathophysiological conditions. For this purpose, transgenic mice with muscle-specific overexpression of PGC-1α that display an endurance exercise muscle phenotype were evaluated in models of cranial irradiation and photothrombotic stroke, as well as in aging and in a voluntary running paradigm. 4. 14. Transcriptional dysregulation in L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia

    Författare :Malin Andersson; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; neurofysiologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; CREB; jun; fos; immediate early genes; prodynorphin; striatal plasticity; Parkinson s disease; dyskinesia; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : This study explores the role of transcriptional regulation important in the development of L-DOPA-induced dyskinesia in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease. In patients with Parkinson’s disease, dyskinesia is one of the most difficult complications of the DA-replacement therapy by L-DOPA. LÄS MER

  5. 15. On stroke risk in type 2 diabetes : focus on glycemic control, insulin resistance, obesity and recovery

    Författare :Alexander Zabala; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: People with type 2 diabetes (T2D) have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. In this thesis the focus is on stroke with different aspects of aims, e.g. LÄS MER
