    Sammanfattning : Perinatal asphyxia with hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is the most important cause of perinatal mortality and cerebral palsy (CP) in infants born at term. The aim of the thesis was to investigate epidemiology of perinatal asphyxia, and to investigate early clinical neurological symptoms after perinatal asphyxia in relation to cerebral glucose metabolism (CMRgl) measured by 18-FDG-PET, neurophysiological function, some biochemical markers, also in relation to long-term outcome.     Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Neuroinflammation is implicated in the development and maintenance of persistent pain states, but there is limited data linking cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) inflammatory mediators with neurophysiological pain processes in humans. Study I aimed to investigate whether there are coherent changes in CSF inflammation associated with central sensitization (CS), and to evaluate potential differences in CSF levels of inflammatory mediators between osteoarthritis (OA) patients with disabling pain and pain-free controls.     Sammanfattning : Background: To understand how the neuronal circuits in the brain process information there is a need for novelneuro-electronic interfaces that can interact chronically with brain tissue with minimal disturbance of thephysiological conditions in the tissue, in awake and freely moving animals. For this, there is a need for implantableneuro-electronic interfaces that are mechanically compliant with the tissue and that can remain positionally stablewith respect to the neurons, despite the continuous micromotions in the brain.     Sammanfattning : Six depression rating scales, GDS, Zung, CES-D, CPRS-D and Cornell, were compared in 40 patients. The validity was good for all scales except for the Cornell scale. A comprehensive investigation was done in 116 elderly stroke patients. There was no difference in prevalence and severity of post-stroke depression in relation to side of lesion. LÄS MER
