    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acetyl choline; central nervous system; central pattern generator; Cre recombinase; development; genetic screen; glutamate; interneuron; motor neuron; mouse; mouse genetics; movement; network; neuronal network; nicotinic receptors; physiology; Renshaw cell; rhythm; spinal cord; transmitter; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; Molecular neurobiology; Molekylär neurobiologi; Neurophysiology; Neurofysiologi; Neurobiology; Neurobiologi; medicinsk utvecklings- och neurobiologi; Developmental Neurosciences;

    Sammanfattning : Spinal neurons are important in several aspects motor control. For example, the neurons essential for locomotor movements reside in the ventral spinal cord. In this thesis, different motor control functions are being related to neuronal populations defined by their common expression of a gene. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computational modeling of the lamprey CPG : from subcellular to network level

    Författare :Mikael Huss; Jeanette Hellgren Kotaleski; Anders Lansner; Ranu Jung; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Due to the staggering complexity of the nervous system, computer modelling is becoming one of the standard tools in the neuroscientist's toolkit. In this thesis, I use computer models on different levels of abstraction to compare hypotheses and seek un- derstanding about pattern-generating circuits (central pattern generators, or CPGs) in the lamprey spinal cord. 3. 3. Untangling Cortico-Striatal Circuitry and its Role in Health and Disease - A computational investigation

    Författare :Jovana Belic; Jeanette Hellgren Kotaleski; Arvind Kumar; Abigail Morrison; Arthur Leblois; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cortico-striatal circuits; levodopa-induced dyskinesia; Parkinson’s disease; effective connectivity; cross-frequency coupling; corticostriatal network; network oscillations; GABAergic transmission. basal ganglia; striatum; cortex; fast spiking interneurons; medium spiny neurons; neuronal avalanches;

    Sammanfattning : The basal ganglia (BG) play a critical role in a variety of regular motor and cognitive functions. Many brain diseases, such as Parkinson’s diseases, Huntington’s disease and dyskinesia, are directly related to malfunctions of the BG nuclei. LÄS MER

  4. 4. My first-passage : target search in physics and biology

    Författare :Markus Nyberg; Ludvig Lizana; Martin Rosvall; Carlos Mejia-Monasterio; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; first-passage; mean first-passage time; mean first-arrival time; random walk; diffusion; zero-crossing; persistence; survival probability; network; resetting; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Random walks and diffusing particles have been a corner stone in modelling the random motion of a varying quantity with applications spanning over many research fields. And in most of the applications one can ask a question related to when something happened for the first time. That is, a first-passage problem. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Information Processing in the Nervous System. On a Holistic Functional Organization Principle

    Författare :Jonas Enander; Hjärnans sensorimotoriska funktioner; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Somatosensory; Tactile; Neuron; Neocortex; Brain organization; Cortical functional localization;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is concerned with the nature of information processing in the nervous system. This issue has been investigated with animal experiments, using male Sprague–Dawley rats, and simulated touch generated by an artificial fingertip with neuromorphic tactile sensors. LÄS MER
