  1. 6. Characterization of galanin receptors using chimeric peptides and site-directed mutagenesis

    Författare :Ulla Eriksson Sollenberg; Ülo Langel; Anna-Lena Hulting; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; galanin; GPCR; mutagenesis; neuropeptide; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Galanin, a 29 (30) amino acid neuropeptide, is found throughout both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It signals via three receptors, GalR1-3, all belonging to the rhodopsin-like G-protein coupled receptors. Galanin and its receptors have been implicated in a vast variety of biological processes. 2. 7. Design and evaluation of drug delivery vehicles

    Författare :Caroline Palm Apergi; Mattias Hällbrink; Gilles Divita; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : A crucial aspect of drug delivery is efficient transport to the site of action. Thus, there is a need to design and evaluate new delivery vehicles. In this thesis two delivery vehicles, cell-penetrating peptides and bacterial ghosts, were evaluated. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Alzheimer Aβ peptides induce dysregulation of C/EBP and NF-кB in glial cells

    Författare :Malin Samuelsson; Kerstin Iverfeldt; Piet Eikelenboom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s disease; amyloid-β; astrocytes; C EBP; glia; microglia; neuroinflammation; NF-кB; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Inflammation is believed to contribute to neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). AD in turn is believed to be a consequence of accumulated amyloid-β (Aβ) peptides, that subsequently form senile plaques, due to imbalance between production and clearance of Aβ. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Altered cell signaling linked to neurodegeneration : Studies on scrapie-infected neuroblastoma cells and activated microglia

    Författare :Christina Svensson; Tiit Land; Gianluigi Forloni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prion disease; Inflammation; MAPK; Microglia activation; Neuroblastoma; Neurochemistry; Neurokemi; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Prion diseases are neurodegenerative disorders that can affect humans and animals. The underlying event is a conformational change of the normal cellular prion protein (PrPC) into an aberrant isoform termed PrP-scrapie (PrPSc). PrPSc is thought to lead to neurodegeneration and activation of glial cells. LÄS MER
