  1. 11. Short- and long-term consequences of sport-related concussion

    Författare :Fredrik Vedung; Niklas Marklund; Gunnar Antoni; Elna-Marie Larsson; Jakob Johansson; Alexander Olsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Sport-related concussion; Soccer; Traumatic brain injury; tau; neuroinflammation; cerebral blood flow; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : Concussions are common in contact sports. Symptoms such as confusion and/or loss of consciousness following an impact to the head indicate that a sport-related concussion (SRC) has occurred. The symptoms normally resolve within 10-14 days following an SRC in adults although at least 10 % of athletes suffer from prolonged symptoms. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Heparan Sulfate in the Amyloidosis and Inflammation of Alzheimer’s Disease

    Författare :Paul O'Callaghan; Xiao Zhang; Lars Lannfelt; Jeremy Turnbull; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer’s disease; amyloidosis; amyloid-β; apolipoprotein E; astrocytes; glia; heparanase; heparan sulfate; heparan sulfate proteoglycans; microglia; neuroinflammation; Geriatrics; Geriatrik; Cellforskning; Cell Research; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap; Pathology; Patologi;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, with extensive evidence implicating the misfolding, aggregation and deposition of the amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide as central to the pathogenesis. Heparan sulfate (HS) is an interactive glycosaminoglycan, attached to core proteins as HS proteoglycans (HSPGs). LÄS MER

  3. 13. Pathways linking sleep, neuroimmune signaling and pain: an integrative approach

    Författare :Martin Flores Bjurström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pain; neuroinflammation; inflammation; glia; central sensitization; cerebrospinal fluid; osteoarthritis; chronic postsurgical pain; groin hernia repair; sleep; sleep disturbance; perioperative; neurophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : Background and objectives: Neuroinflammation is implicated in the development and maintenance of persistent pain states, but there is limited data linking cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) inflammatory mediators with neurophysiological pain processes in humans. Study I aimed to investigate whether there are coherent changes in CSF inflammation associated with central sensitization (CS), and to evaluate potential differences in CSF levels of inflammatory mediators between osteoarthritis (OA) patients with disabling pain and pain-free controls. 4. 14. Perinatal Staphylococcus epidermidis infection and the immature brain: a neuroinflammatory link

    Författare :Giacomo Gravina; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; S. epidermidis; neonatal brain injury; hypoxia-ischemia; microglia; neuroinflammation; S. epidermidis; neonatal brain injury; hypoxia-ischemia; microglia; neuroinflammation;

    Sammanfattning : Preterm birth and its associated complications are among the most serious global health issues that modern society faces. Due to the prolonged medical care and immature immune system, preterm infants have a higher susceptibility to infections, which puts them at a higher risk of developing neurological impairments as well as neurodevelopmental diseases. 5. 15. Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Diagnostic Markers in Alzheimer’s Disease

    Författare :Joakim Hertze; Klinisk minnesforskning; []

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia, is a growing concern. As the life expectancy increases across the globe, the number of affected people is estimated to reach 100 million by 2050. LÄS MER
