17. Melatonin and its receptors in the normal human gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and in small intestinal neuroendocrine tumours
Sammanfattning : Melatonin, “the hormone of darkness” is well known to regulate sleep and circadian rhythm. However, melatonin is also present in numerous peripheral tissues and the number of actions assigned to this neurohormone is growing steadily. LÄS MER
18. Clinical and immunohistochemical studies of small bowel carcinoid tumours
Sammanfattning : Small bowel carcinoid tumours arising from enterochromaffin cells in the jejunum and ileum are neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) characterized by secretion of serotonin, tachykinins and other bioactive substances. These substances may lead to the typical carcinoid syndrome as well as pronounced fibrosis locally and in the heart. LÄS MER
19. Melatonin in the gastrointestinal tract
Sammanfattning : Melatonin is recognised as the pineal hormone regulating sleep and circadian rhythm. It has also been identified in peripheral tissues (mainly in animals) and thought to display a variety of actions, including anti-inflammatory properties, regulation of gastrointestinal (GI) functions, glucose homeostasis and beneficial effects in different tumour types. 20. Prognostic factors in prostate cancer with special reference to the effect of hormonal therapy
Sammanfattning : We have used image cell analysis to analyse nuclear DNA content on fine needle aspiration biopsies from 96 patients diagnosed to have prostate cancer 1980-81. By stratifying diploid and tetraploid tumours according to a cytometric proliferation index (PI), we suggest a new DNA-classification that is prognostic of death from prostate cancer in multivariate analysis including conventional prognostic factors.
