11. Alzheimer's disease : uncovering mechanisms for amyloid precursor protein processing and trafficking
Sammanfattning : Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by impairment of memory and, eventually, by disturbances in cognitive abilities. Brain regions crucial for learning and memory exhibit atrophy, but the underlying mechanisms for neurodegeneration continues to be point of debate. LÄS MER
12. Let's talk about SOX : diverse key players in the transcriptional regulation of neural stem cells
Sammanfattning : The development of the central nervous system relies on neural stem cells. How these stem cells either maintain their identity as self-renewing progenitors or differentiate into cells of the neuronal or glial lineage are fundamental questions. LÄS MER
13. Stem cell based therapy of malignant brain tumors
Sammanfattning : Malignant brain tumor is a highly invasive and vascularized cancer. Current forms of therapy are not curative and can, at best, prolong survival for patients with this disease. The mean survival is only around 15 months. LÄS MER
14. Neuronal and glial differentiation of expanded neural stem and progenitor cells; in vitro and after transplantation
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we have used cells dissected from the lateral ganglionic eminence (LGE), the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE), and the cortical primordium of the embryonic mouse forebrain. The tissue was dissected from either i) wild-type mice, ii) green fluorescent protein (GFP)-, or iii) Gtv-a-expressing transgenic mice, and subsequently grown and expanded in vitro using two different protocols. 15. The cell line RN33B transplanted to adult retina
Sammanfattning : The thesis describes the neural precursor cell line RN33B transplanted subretinally to adult healthy and young dystrophic rat retina. The cell line is generated from E12,5 rat raphe nucleus and transduced with the temperature sensitive mutant of the Simian Virus 40 (SV40) large T-antigen. LÄS MER
