21. Machine learning using approximate inference : Variational and sequential Monte Carlo methods
Sammanfattning : Automatic decision making and pattern recognition under uncertainty are difficult tasks that are ubiquitous in our everyday life. The systems we design, and technology we develop, requires us to coherently represent and work with uncertainty in data. LÄS MER
22. Adaptive human-agent dialogues for reasoning about health
Sammanfattning : The aim of this research is to develop new theories, methods and technology, which enables adaptive and personalised dialogues between a human and a software agent, to handle everyday queries about health that are perceived as meaningful and useful to the human. Some of the challenges to build such human-agent dialogue system are the following. LÄS MER
23. Essays on Event History Analysis and the Effects of Social Programs on Individuals and Firms

Using a difference-in-differences design, I exploit two reforms of the Swedish UI system that made monitoring and sanctions considerably stricter at different points in time for different jobseeker groups. 24. Modeling of foams for impact simulations
Sammanfattning : Stimulated by the strong drive in the automotive industry to reduce energy consumption, and, linked to that, the need to reduce weight, this thesis concerns modeling of foams forimpact simulations. To start with, a continuum hyperelasto-viscoplastic model is developedwithin the framework of Theory of Porous Media. LÄS MER
25. Modeling of bacterial DNA patterns important in horizontal gene transfer using stochastic grammars
Sammanfattning : DNA contains genes which carry the blueprints for all processes necessary to maintain life. In addition to genes, DNA also contains a wide range of functional patterns, which governs many of these processes. These functional patterns have typically a high variability, both within and between species, which makes them hard to detect. LÄS MER
