16. Between open systems and closed doors : the needs and perceptions of parents of children with cognitive disabilities in educational settings
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of three papers on multivariate frailty models and one paper on the use of latent class models in genetic association studies. The common theme through the four papers is the use of latent variables to capture complex dependence structures in the data. LÄS MER
17. Etiological aspects of gastroesophageal cancers : an epidemiological approach
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aims of this thesis were to study the association of overall dietary habits, duodenal ulcer and gastric ulcer diseases, as two models of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and the development of gastroesophageal cancers to further explore the etiology of these malignancies. 18. Statistical Properties of Preliminary Test Estimators
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the statistical properties of preliminary test estimators of linear models with normally distributed errors. Specifically, we derive exact expressions for the mean, variance and quadratic risk (i.e. the Mean Square Error) of estimators whose form are determined by the outcome of a statistical test. LÄS MER
19. Mode choice modelling of long-distance passenger transport based on mobile phone network data
Sammanfattning : Reliable forecasting models are needed to achieve the climate related goals in the face of increasing transport demand. Such models can predict the long-term behavioural response to policy interventions, including infrastructure investments, and thus provide valuable pre-dictions for decision makers. LÄS MER
20. Computationally efficient methods in spatial statistics : Applications in environmental modeling
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, computationally efficient statistical models for large spatial environmental data sets are constructed. In the first part of the thesis, a method for estimating spatially dependent temporal trends is developed. A space-varying regression model, where the regression coefficients for the spatial locations are dependent, is used. LÄS MER
