1. Från naturliga tal till hela tal (från N till Z) : Vad kan göra skillnad för elevers möjligheter att bli bekanta med de negativa talen?
Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis is to gain knowledge concerning what pupils aged 8 and 9 need to learn to become familiar with negative numbers. The framework used in this research, variation theory, impliesthat students' problems in learning what was intended may have to do with the fact that some critical aspects of the studied object have not yet been discerned by the student. 2.
3. Adaptive Robot Presenters : Modelling Grounding in Multimodal Interaction
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the topic of grounding in human-robot interaction, that is, the process by which the human and robot can ensure mutual understanding. To explore this topic, the scenario of a robot holding a presentation to a human audience is used, where the robot has to process multimodal feedback from the human in order to adapt the presentation to the human's level of understanding. 4. Older and Feeling Unsafe? Unravelling the Role of Perceived Unsafety in the Well-being of Older Adults Residing in Senior Apartments
Sammanfattning : Feeling safe in one’s place of residence is important for the well-being of older adults when ageing in place; in contrast, feeling unsafe is likely to have negative consequences for well-being while ageing. Although substantial knowledge of perceived unsafety has been accumulated within various disciplines, there are certain knowledge gaps related to perceived unsafety in older age. LÄS MER
5. Cognition in Hearing Aid Users : Memory for Everyday Speech
Sammanfattning : The thesis investigated the importance of cognition for speech understanding in experienced and new hearing aid users. The aims were 1) to develop a cognitive test (Sentence-final Word Identification and Recall, or SWIR test) to measure the effects of a noise reduction algorithm on processing of highly intelligible speech (everyday sentences); 2) to investigate, using the SWIR test, whether hearing aid signal processing would affect memory for heard speech in experienced hearing aid users; 3) to test whether the effects of signal processing on the ability to recall speech would interact with background noise and individual differences in working memory capacity; 4) to explore the potential clinical application of the SWIR test; and 5) to examine the relationship between cognition and speech recognition in noise in new users over the first six months of hearing aid use.
