  1. 1. A Signal Processing Approach to Practical Neurophysiology : A Search for Improved Methods in Clinical Routine and Research

    Författare :Björn Hammarberg; Dick Stegeman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemteknik; matched filter; asynchronous detection; Kalman filter; initialization; MHT; Wiener deconvolution; line source model; electromyography; needle EMG; motor unit potential; MUAP; mean fiber concentration; jitter; microneurography; C-fiber; spike sorting; Systemteknik; Systems engineering; Systemteknik; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : Signal processing within the neurophysiological field is challenging and requires short processing time and reliable results. In this thesis, three main problems are considered.First, a modified line source model for simulation of muscle action potentials (APs) is presented. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The electromyographic signal used for control of upper extremity prostheses and for quantification of motor blockade during epidural anaesthesia

    Författare :Lennart Philipson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : A contribution of biomedical research engineering has been the development of detection and analysis methods for the electromyographic (EMG) signal and its application to health care problems. The present thesis describes the use of EMG signals for two such applications: Aid in the control of multifunctional upper limb prostheses and for quantification of motor blockade during epidural anaesthesia. 3. 3. The pelvic floor and genital prolapse : a clinical, physiological and radiological study

    Författare :Annika López; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Electromyography; Genital prolapse; Paradoxical sphincter reaction; Pelvic floor; Peritoneocele; Radiology; Rectocele;

    Sammanfattning : Objective: To determine the frequency of concomitant colorectal disorders in patients with rectocele, and to assess any such association with rectocele; to investigate if paradoxical sphincter reaction (PSR) is influenced by the rectal filling volume; to investigate if surface electromyography (EMG) is a reliable method for diagnosing PSR; to evaluate the use of defeco-peritoneography (DP) in patients with an unexplained widening of the rectovaginal space at defecography; to study the long-term results after rectocele repair and to evaluate parameters that might influence the outcome; to evaluate pre- and postoperative findings at cysto-defeco-peritoneography (CDP) in patients with genital prolapse. Methods: EMG of the anal sphincter muscles was carried out and PSR was diagnosed using needle, wire and/or surface electrodes. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Quantitative sensory testing, obstructive sleep apnea and peripheral nervous lesions

    Författare :Louise Hagander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska institutet Institutionen för klinisk neurovetenskap Department of Clinical Neuroscience; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE;

    Sammanfattning : In diagnosis of peripheral neuropathies, quantitative sensory testing (QST) is used to assess thermal and vibration sensitivity. QST is a psychophysical method susceptible to the influence of several factors. It is important to standardize the test. Vibrations may cause peripheral nerve lesions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Rectal prolapse, internal rectal intussusception and the ripstein rectopexy : a clinical, physiological and radiological study

    Författare :Inkeri Schultz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Anal incontinence; constipation; procidentia; rectal prolapse; internal rectal intussusception; Ripstein s operation; rectopexy;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of these studies was to increase the knowledge about rectal prolapse and internal rectal intussusception, with special reference to bowel function and treatment with the Ripstein rectopexy. Results after the Ripstein rectopexy in 69 patients with rectal prolapse and in 43 patients with internal metal intussusception were evaluated. LÄS MER
