6. Technological properties of rock aggregates
Sammanfattning : The commission of technical geology is to apply geological knowledge to the field of constructional engineering, mining technology, environmental protection, architecture etc. The sector of infrastructure is highly dependent on the production of crushed rock materials as the main constituent of e.g. road and railway constructions. 7.
8. Interactions between climate, natural disturbances, and regeneration in boreal and hemi-boreal forests
Sammanfattning : Natural disturbance is an important driving force of community dynamics in many forest types around the globe. Understanding spatial and temporal properties of disturbance events in the present and in the past is important in formulating the nature conservation strategies as well as for the modeling of climate and human impacts on forest vegetation. 9. The impact of past land-use change on floristic diversity in southern Sweden : a quantitative approach based on high-resolution pollen data
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the relationship between land-use and floristic diversity over the last three millennia in the uplands of southern Sweden. A quantitative approach based on high-resolution pollen data was applied, using the Landscape Reconstruction Algorithm (LRA), historical maps/aerial photographs, palynological richness and new ways to estimate past evenness at regional and local spatial scales, which enable estimates of the rate and degree of change in land-use and floristic diversity. 10. Intraspecific variation in Rhinanthus angustifolius. Local adaptation, phenotypic plasticity and geographical structure
Sammanfattning : Plant species often adapt to local environmental conditions, which can result in the formation of genetically and phenotypically distinct ecotypes. Ecotypes can evolve rapidly, and may be a first step in the process of ecological speciation. LÄS MER
