  1. 1. Corrosion of Ferritic Stainless Steels Used in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

    Författare :Claudia Goebel; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SOFC; Corrosion; Dual Atmosphere; Interconnect; Area Specific Resistance;

    Sammanfattning : Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) are energy conversion systems with clean emissions (depending on the fuel used) and high electrical efficiencies, which could potentially replace conventional conversion systems such as combustion engines. However, other issues, such as high costs and limited lifetime, must be resolved before widespread commercialization of SOFCs can be achieved. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanistic Approach to Corrosion of Zirconium by Water - A First Principle Study

    Författare :Mikaela Lindgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; zirconium; hydrogen pick-up; corrosion; oxygen vacancy; DFT;

    Sammanfattning : Zirconium and zirconium oxides are of major technological importance. There are broad applications for these materials, from fuel cell electrolyte to semiconductors and in hip-implants. In nuclear power plants, zirconium alloys are widely used as cladding material to contain the fission fuel in the reactor cores. LÄS MER

  3. 3. High temperature corrosion of low-alloyed and stainless steels: mechanistic study of chlorine-induced corrosion

    Författare :Mercedes Andrea Olivas Ogaz; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; stainless steels; low-alloyed steels; pre-oxidation; High temperature corrosion; chlorine-induced corrosion;

    Sammanfattning : The global demand on power generation is constantly increasing and so far, also its environmental impact. The environmental impact could primarily be directed to the power generation being based on fossil fuels, giving a net increase of CO2 to the atmosphere when combusted. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Natural corrosion in reinforced concrete structures

    Författare :Samanta Robuschi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Natural corrosion; pitting corrosion; reinforced concrete structures; chloride-induced corrosion.; neutron imaging; anchorage; plain bars; X-rays CT;

    Sammanfattning : Among the threats to the durability of concrete structures, corrosion of the reinforcement bars is undoubtedly the most common one. Corrosion damages impair safety and durability of infrastructure, and assessment of the safety is challenging due to the complex nature of the corrosion process. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Influence of hydrogen on corrosion and stress induced cracking of stainless steel

    Författare :Ulf Kivisäkk; Christofer Leygraf; Roy Johnsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hydrogen; corrosion; hydrogen embrittlement; stainless steels; uniform corrosion; activation; dewpoint corrosion; low temperature creep; plastic deformation; microhardness; Surface and colloid chemistry; Yt- och kolloidkemi;

    Sammanfattning : Hydrogen is the smallest element in the periodical table. It has been shown in several studies that hydrogen has a large influence on the corrosion and cracking behaviour of stainless steels. Hydrogen is involved in several of the most common cathode reactions during corrosion and can also cause embrittlement in many stainless steels. LÄS MER
