Sammanfattning : 3D information extracted by image matching of aerial images, so called image-based point clouds, have been found to provide accurate vegetation height measurements. The ability of forests to counteract climate change by acting as carbon sinks have been recognized in global climate politics, such as the 2015 Paris agreement which calls for national commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Sammanfattning : The intertwined challenges of food insecurity, deforestation, and biodiversity loss remain perennial challenges in Ethiopia, despite increasing policy interventions. This thesis investigates smallholding farmers’ tree- and forest-based livelihoods and management practices, in the context of national development and conservation policies, and examines how these local management practices and policies transform the agriculture–forest mosaic landscapes of southwestern Ethiopia. 10. Impacts of stumps and roots on carbon storage and bioenergy use in a climate change context
Sammanfattning : As a result of national and international greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets, economic incentives and political desires to be more independent regarding energy supplies, there is interest in substituting fossil fuels with renewable energy sources, such as forest fuels. Stump harvesting could be an option to further increase the bioenergy potential in forested countries; currently stump harvesting is carried out on a pilot basis in Sweden. LÄS MER
