11. Subject and History in Selected Works by Abdulrazak Gurnah, Yvonne Vera, and David Dabydeen
Sammanfattning : This study is concerned with subject formation in the fiction of contemporary postcolonial authors Abdulrazak Gurnah, Yvonne Vera, and David Dabydeen. In contextualised readings of a total of nine works – Gurnah’s Admiring Silence (1996), By the Sea (2001), and Desertion (2005); Vera’s Without a Name (1996), Butterfly Burning (1998), and The Stone Virgins (2002); Dabydeen’s Disappearance (1993), Turner (1994), and A Harlot’s Progress (1999) – it explores thematic and formal aspects of the subject’s constitution in the texts. 12. Differently charged polypeptides and their impact on peritoneal and pleural postoperative adhesion formation
Sammanfattning : Organization LUND UNIVERSITY Department of Surgery, Clinical Sciences Skånes University Hospital Lund SE-221 85 Lund Sweden Document name DOCTORAL DISSERTATION Date of issue: November 8, 2013 Author(s): Daniel Åkerberg Sponsoring organization Title and subtitle: Differently charged polypeptides and their impact on peritoneal and pleural postoperative adhesion formation Abstract: Abdominal adhesions are formed after previous peritoneal traumas where previous surgery poses the most frequent cause. An increasing number of clinical complications due to adhesions have been detected such as small bowel obstructions, female infertility, and pain. LÄS MER
13. The Co-Structure Directing Agent (CSDA) Approach to Mesoporous Silica Formation – Exploring the Assembly Characteristics
Sammanfattning : We investigate the formation mechanism responsible for two specific systems of mesoporous silicas formed with the so-called co-structure directing agent (CSDA) route. The synthesis relies on the interactions between silica source (tetraethylorthosilicate, TEOS), surfactants and CSDA. LÄS MER
14. Thin Film Synthesis of New Nanolaminated Ternary Carbides
Sammanfattning : Ternary transition metal carbides with inherently nanolaminated crystal structure are a class of materials with typically higher damage tolerance, better machinability and lower brittleness compared to the binary counterparts, yet retaining their satisfactory electrical and thermal conductivity. Their interesting properties can be related to the laminated structure. LÄS MER
15. Optical properties of novel semiconductor nanostructures
Sammanfattning : Semiconductor nanostructures, such as one-dimensional nanowires (NWs) and zerodimensional quantum dots (QDs), have recently gained increasing interest due to their unique physical properties that are found attractive for a wide variety of applications ranging from gas sensing and spintronics to optoelectronics and photonics. Here, especially promising are nanostructures based on compound semiconductors, including ZnO, GaNP and GaAs/InAs. LÄS MER
