  1. 11. Fractionation of lipids and protein from the microalga Nannochloropsis oculata

    Författare :Lillie Cavonius; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; food processing; lipids; pH-shift process; n 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids; solubilization; acid; proteins; Nannochloropsis oculata; alkaline; microalgae; precipitation; in vitro digestion;

    Sammanfattning : To feed Earth’s growing population, microalgae have been proposed as a source of protein and long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFAs). Currently, microalgae are mainly sold either as whole biomass, or the economically valuable LC n-3 PUFA fraction is extracted with organic solvents. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Dietary exposure to persistent organochlorine compounds and health effects in women and their infants - Epidemiological studies on birthweight, cancer incidence, and mortality

    Författare :Lars Rylander; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; birthweight; breast cancer; ischemic heart disease; n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids; CB-153; PCB; dibenzofurans; dioxins; fish consumption; persistent organochlorine compounds; gender ratio; Occupational health; industrial medicine; Yrkesmedicin; arbetsmiljömedicin;

    Sammanfattning : In Sweden the main exposure route for both polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and other persistent organochlorine compounds is through consumption of fatty fish species from the Baltic Sea (the eastern coast of Sweden). Cohorts of fishermen's wives from the Swedish east and west coasts were established. LÄS MER

  3. 13. A Mediterranean dietary intervention study of patients with rheumatoid arthritis

    Författare :Linda Hagfors; Gunnar Johansson; Margaretha Haugen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Rheumatoid arthritis; Mediterranean diet; fatty acids; antioxidants; diet history interview; biological markers; doubly labelled water; energy expenditure;

    Sammanfattning : Case control studies have shown that a high consumption of fish, olive oil, and cooked vegetables is associated with a decreased risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis (RA). These foods have a central position in the traditional Cretan Mediterranean diet, and it has been suggested that dietary factors contribute to the low prevalence of RA in Mediterranean countries. 4. 14. Oxidation of marine oils during in vitro gastrointestinal digestion and its effects on stress in human intestinal Caco-2 cells

    Författare :Cecilia Tullberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; lipid oxidation; human digestive fluids; LC n-3 PUFAs; Caco-2 cells; marine oils; HNE; MDA; in vitro digestion; HHE; gastrointestinal; aldehydes;

    Sammanfattning : Marine oils are attracting public interest due to the preventive effects, e.g., on inflammation, which are linked to the long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC n-3 PUFAs). However, LC n-3 PUFAs are highly susceptible to oxidation, which could interfere with their positive effects. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Effects of Antioxidant and Lipid Lowering Treatment on Risk Factors for Cardiovascular Disease : With special reference to Mixed Tocopherols and Stable Fish Oil

    Författare :Meilin Liu; Afaf Kamal-Eldin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; Cardiovascular disease; Antioxidants; Tocopherols; Endothelial constitutive nitric oxide synthase; Superoxide dismutase; Protein kinase C; Fish oils; Fatty acids; Simvastatin; Lipoprotein; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; rättsmedicin; Forensic Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Vitamin E in food, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and lipid lowering treatment with statins have been found to decrease the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and cardiac death. However, clinical trials revealed no beneficial effect of intake of alpha-tocopherol alone. LÄS MER
