  1. 1. Bark lesions and sensitivity to frost in beech and Norway spruce

    Författare :Anna Maria Jönsson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Picea abies; Multiple stress; Mineral nutrient balance; Liming; Lichen indices; Fagus sylvatica; Cryptococcus fagisuga; Excess nitrogen; Vitality fertilization; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Strong temperature fluctuations and pathogen attacks can cause bark lesions, visible signs of wounds in the phloem and cambium. Pathogenic insects and fungi are able to invade lesions that have not healed, further increasing the damage. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Swallowing dysfunction among older people in short-term care : prevalence, effect of intervention, and risk of mortality

    Författare :Patricia Hägglund; Eva Levring Jäghagen; Per Wester; Mary Hägg; Karin Brunnegård; Per Östberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :swallowing disorder; dysphagia; elderly care; intermediate care; undernutrition; oral health; treatment; rehabilitation; quality of life; mortality risk; survival;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: Swallowing dysfunction (dysphagia) is a common, but often neglected condition among geriatric patients that can cause severe complications such as malnutrition, aspiration pneumonia and death. The aims of this thesis were to (i) describe the study design and method of the multidisciplinary and multicenter project SOFIA (Swallowing function, Oral health, and Food Intake in old Age), (ii) study the prevalence of and the relationship between swallowing dysfunction and risk of undernutrition among older individuals in short-term care, (iii) study the effect of oral neuromuscular training on swallowing dysfunction among older individuals, and (iv) to investigate the association between poor oral health, swallowing dysfunction and mortality. 3. 3. Studies on mRNA turnover in bacteria

    Författare :Martin Persson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; aprE; GlpP; glpD; mRNA secondary structure; Bacillus subtilis; mRNA stability; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic information, which is stored in DNA, is transferred to messenger RNA (mRNA) in a process called transcription. mRNAs are then translated by ribosomes into proteins which, with some important exceptions, catalyze chemical reactions in cells. Since cells must be able to adapt to changes in the environment, mRNAs must be unstable. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular detection of abundance and activity of marine, symbiotic, N2-fixing cyanobacteria

    Författare :Linnéa Ström; Rachel Foster; Daniel Lundin; Katharina Pawlowski; Rehab El-Shehawy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diatom Diazotroph Association; Richelia; Iron; Phosphorus; Nitrogen; nifH; pstS; exbB; rnpA; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology; marinbiologi; Marine Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Marine primary productivity in large parts of the oceans is supported by nitrogen fixers (diazotrophs). Richelia, a genus of multiple closely related species of heterocystous filamentous cyanobacterial diazotrophs, are often found in symbioses with a few genera of diatoms. Several Richelia species: R. euintracellularis, R. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Searching for Celiac Disease Screening-detected celiac disease in an HLA-genotyped birth cohort

    Författare :Sara Björck; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bone mineral density; inflammation; cytokine; screening; HLA; tissue transglutaminase antibody; children; Celiac disease; vitamin D; parathyroid hormone;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: Celiac disease is a common immune mediated enteropathy strongly associated with HLA-DQB1*02 (DQ2), *0302 (DQ8), or both and the presence of tissue transglutaminase autoantibodies (tTGA). Prevalence studies have revealed that most affected individuals go undetected because of subclinical signs or being asymptomatic rendering screening a method for identification. LÄS MER
