6. Energy-metabolic aspects of ischemia and pre-treatment: studies in porcine myocardium
Sammanfattning : The focus of this thesis is to clarify mechanisms involved in protective pre-treatment of ischemia by carbon monoxide (CO) and ischemic preconditioning (IP), so that new pro-tective therapies can be designed. This is studied in heart muscle, where the clinical gain would ultimately be to be able to prolong the period during a threatened myocardial infarction where permanent injury can be prevented. 7. Acute Myocardial Infarction: The Relationship between Duration of Ischaemia and Infarct Size in Humans - Assessment by MRI and SPECT
Sammanfattning : The effect of duration of ischaemia on final infarct size is well established in animal studies, but not fully evaluated in humans. Delayed contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DE-MRI) can be used to distinguish between viable and non-viable myocardium and thus to quantify infarct size. LÄS MER
8. Ventricular Depolarization in Ischemic Heart Disease.Value of Electrocardiography in Assessment of Severity and Extent of Acute Myocardial Ischemia
Sammanfattning : Background In patients with symptoms compatible with acute myocardial infarction (MI), early triage by ECG in the pre-hospital phase by ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) criteria is important for direct transport of these patients to a regional center for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI). The time from first medical contact to pPCI should, due to present guidelines, be no longer than two hours. LÄS MER
9. Effects of postconditioning in ST-elevation myocardial infarction : assessment of myocardium at risk and infarct size
Sammanfattning : Background: Myocardial infarction remains a major health problem, despite recent improvements in detection and treatment. Infarct size is a major determinant of future mortality and morbidity. LÄS MER
10. Dysfunctional but viable myocardium - ischemic heart disease assessed by magnetic resonance imaging and single photon emission computed tomography
Sammanfattning : The assessment of ischemic heart disease (IHD) often focuses on the detection of dysfunctional but viable myocardium which may improve in function following revascularization. Dysfunctional but viable myocardium is identified by distinct characteristics with regards to function, perfusion and viability. LÄS MER
