1. Evaluation of a Laser Doppler System for Myocardial Perfusion Monitoring
Sammanfattning : Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is a common treatment for patients with coronary artery disease. A potential complication of CABG is myocardial ischemia or infarction. In this thesis, a method - based on laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) - for detection of intra- and postoperative ischemia by myocardial perfusion monitoring is evaluated. LÄS MER
2. Early Cardiovascular Changes of Familial Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in the Young
Sammanfattning : Familial hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is the most common inherited heart disease, transmitted in an autosomal dominant fashion, i.e. 50% risk for transmission of the disease-causing mutation to each child of the affected family. LÄS MER
3. Insulin resistance and cardiovascular function - Observational, translational and interventional studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Microvascular disease is now recognized as an important driver for cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Diabetic patients are known to suffer from this condition, leading to e.g. coronary ischemia as well as kidney dysfunction. LÄS MER
4. Disturbances in myocardial diastolic and vascular function with the emphasis on type 2 diabetes : diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities
Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Cardiovascular involvement is common in diabetes and diastolic myocardial and endothelial dysfunction are early signs. The prognosis is serious and tools for early detection and a search for improved management strategies are important. LÄS MER
5. Role of arginase in vascular function
Sammanfattning : Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is central for the integrity of the cardiovascular system, the maintenance of endothelial function and the protection against ischaemic heart disease. The enzyme arginase is up-regulated during ischaemia-reperfusion and by hypoxia in cell culture and animal models which might be of pathophysiological relevance since it competes with NO synthase for their common substrate arginine.
