6. FLT3 receptor in normal and malignant hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : All hematopoietic cells originate from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) residing in the bone marrow (BM). The classical model of hematopoietic lineage commitment, that has been the prevailing model for hematopoiesis, proposes that the first lineage commitment step of HSCs and progenitors results in a strict separation of myelopoiesis and lymphopoiesis. 7. Epigenetic regulation of transcription and cellular development
Sammanfattning : Epigenetic machinery can regulate different biological processes via different mechanisms. In this thesis, we explore the effects of the epigenetic system on transcription and how it can differ during cellular development in different human cell lines models, with focus on hematopoiesis. 8. Molecular Genetic Studies of ALSG, Kostmann Syndrome and a Novel Chromosome 10 Inversion
Sammanfattning : In summary, this thesis presents the localisation and identification of genetic variants of which some are disease associated and some considered to be neutral. Knowledge of the basic mechanisms behind human disorders is important both from a biological and medical point of view. LÄS MER
9. Hematopoiesis: Functional Insights by Cell Fate Conversion
Sammanfattning : Blood cell formation, or hematopoiesis, is maintained by rare hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) residing in the bone marrow (BM). HSCs may self-renew (the process whereby HSCs replicate to produce new HSCs) to preserve their own numbers, as well as initiate a highly coordinated hierarchical differentiation process that results in the production of mature effector blood cells. 10. Kostmann syndrome : a clinical and pathophysiological study
Sammanfattning : Kostmann syndrome or severe congenital neutropenia (SCN) is a rare disease, usually diagnosed during the first months of life, characterized by extremely low levels of neutrophils in the peripheral blood, a maturational arrest of the myelopoiesis in the bone marrow and severe bacterial infections. The purpose of this project was to improve the understanding of the clinical course and the pathophysiology of autosomal recessive SCN. LÄS MER
