21. IgA Nephropathy – Mucosal Immunity and Treatment Options
Sammanfattning : In the present studies we have explored the link between food hypersensitivity and IgA nephropathy (IgAN) and evaluated treatment options in primary and recurrent disease. Approximately one third of our IgAN patients had a rectal mucosal sensitivity to gluten, as demonstrated by increased local mucosal nitric oxide production and/or myeloperoxidase release after gluten challenge. 22. Nanostructure and biomolecule interactions : Characterizing the complex
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results of studies done on various biomolecules and their interactions with nanomaterials. The biomolecule sources are everything from purified, single proteins to the complicated mixture of blood serum and cell culture media. LÄS MER
23. Platelets and the inflammatory response in coronary heart disease
Sammanfattning : The thesis investigates a new invented computerised apparatus suitable for determining platelet density distribution and peak platelet density in undisturbed linear Percoll™ gradients. The device measures light transmission through test tubes containing density-separated platelets. LÄS MER
24. Isoprenylation and NET formation in acute pancreatitis
Sammanfattning : Acute Pancreatitis (AP) is an inflammation disease that characterized by activation of protease and the innate immune system, leading to infiltration of neutrophils and tissue damage in the pancreas. The aim of this thesis was to determine the role of isoprenylation (farnesyltransferase and geranylgeranyltransferase) as well as NET formation in regulating recruitment of neutrophils and tissue damage in severe AP. 25. Clinical and Experimental Studies on Inflammatory Bowel Disease with special emphasis on Collagenous Colitis
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes studies in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collagenous colitis (CC). We investigated mucosal eosinophil and neutrophil granulocytes and T-cells involved in the inflammatory processes and aimed at determining whether these processes are reflected in the faecal (F) contents of specific proteins secreted by cells in the intestinal mucosa.
