1. The Ecophysiology of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi: Phosphatase Activity Associated with Extraradical and Intraradical Mycelium
Sammanfattning : Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi colonise a wide range of plant species and are especially common in soils with a relatively high pH, where phosphorus availability is a limiting factor for primary production. The aim of this thesis was to study the ecophysiology of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi when exposed to different environments. LÄS MER
2. Biosynthetic and synthetic studies of the fungal metabolite galiellalactone
Sammanfattning : Galiellalactone is a fungal metabolite found in the basidiomycetes Galiella rufa and the unidentified strain A111-95. It has been shown to possess promising activities as an inhibitor of the IL-6 mediated STAT3 signaling in HepG2 cells. LÄS MER
3. The external mycorrhizal mycelium - growth and interactions with saprophytic microorganisms
Sammanfattning : The interactions between external mycorrhizal mycelia and saprophytic microorganisms were studied in experiments with growth chambers specially designed to enable the mycelia to develop in root-free soil compartments. The growth of the mycorrhizal mycelia was estimated by use of biochemical signature compounds. LÄS MER
4. Ectomycorrhizal fungi: Their role in nitrogen retention and carbon sequestration in northern coniferous forests
Sammanfattning : Almost all northern forest tree species live in symbioses with ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF). The trees allocate up to half of the photoassimilated carbon (C) through the roots to EMF. In return EMF deliver nutrients from both inorganic and organic sources in the soil, as well as water. LÄS MER
5. Transcriptome Analyses of the Nematode-trapping Fungus Monacrosporium haptotylum
Sammanfattning : Nematode-trapping fungi are soil living organisms with the ability to infect and kill nematodes. These fungi have developed specialized infection structures, traps for the capture of nematodes. To be able to identify genes in nematode-trapping fungi that are involved in the infection of nematodes cDNA microarrays were constructed. LÄS MER
