  1. 1. Training and hormones in physically active women : with and without oral contraceptive use

    Författare :Lisbeth Wikström-Frisén; Karin Larsén; Anna Nordtröm; Cecilia Fridén; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; female athletes; hormones; menstrual cycle; oral contraceptive cycle; resistance training; muscle strength; power; body composition; female athlete triad; overreaching; overtraining syndrome;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The number of women participating in sports has increased dramatically, though research in sports are often performed on men. Physical exercise is known to increase physical performance and improve well-being. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Satellite cells in human skeletal muscle : molecular identification quantification and function

    Författare :Mona Lindström; Lars-Eric Thornell; Hannu Kalimo; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; satellite cell markers; NCAM; Pax7; MyoD; myogenin; DLK1 FA1; c-Met; human skeletal muscle; immunohistochemistry; muscle growth; muscle hypertrophy; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle satellite cells located between the plasma membrane and the basal lamina of muscle fibres, could for many years, only be studied in situ by electron microscopy. The introduction of immunohistochemistry and the discovery of molecular markers of satellite cells then made them accessible for light microscopic studies and a wealth of information is today available. 3. 3. Strenght training and anabolic steroids : a comparative study of the trapezius, a shoulder muscle and the vastus lateralis, a thigh muscle, of strength trained athletes

    Författare :Anders Eriksson; Bengt Saltin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :strength training; anabolic steroids; vastus lateralis; trapezius; enzymehistochemistry; immunohistochemistry; muscle fiber; myonuclei; satellite cell; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Sammanfattning : Strength training is widely used to increase performance in sports with high physical demands. The use of drugs such as anabolic steroids among athletes is a wellknown phenomenon, and the effects of these drugs on physical performance documented. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Firefighters' physical work capacity

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Lindberg; Christer Malm; Juha Oksa; Desiree Gavhed; Peter Krustrup; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical demands; performance; work capacity; aerobic fitness; anaerobic fitness; muscle strength; muscle endurance; balance; ergonomics; physical testing; SIMCA;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to identify valid, simple, and inexpensive physical tests that can be used for evaluation of firefighters’ physical work capacity. Paper I included fulltime- and part-time firefighters (n = 193), aged 20-60 years. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Post activation potentiation : Modulating factors and mechanisms for muscle performance

    Författare :Paulo Gago; Ekblom Maria; Anton Arndt; Nicola Maffiuletti; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Potentiation; twitch; triceps surae; knee angle; stiffnes; length changes; electromechanical delay; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Acute enhancements of muscle contractile properties and performance subsequent to a maximal or near maximal conditioning contraction are often termed post activation potentiation (PAP). Although still controversial, PAP is commonly linked to enhancements in the myosin regulatory light chain phosphorylation, leading to improvements in the excitation–contraction coupling. LÄS MER
