  1. 1. Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Congenital Myopathy-related Weakness

    Författare :Johan Lindqvist; Julien Ochala; Anders Arner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; skeletal muscle; skeletal muscle contraction; atrophy; nemaline myopathy; myofibrillar myopathy; myosin; actin;

    Sammanfattning : Congenital myopathies are a rare and heterogeneous group of diseases. They are primarily characterised by skeletal muscle weakness and disease-specific pathological features. They harshly limit ordinary life and in severe cases, these myopathies are associated with early death of the affected individuals. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanisms Underlying Intensive Care Unit Muscle Wasting : Intervention Strategies in an Experimental Animal Model and in Intensive Care Unit Patients

    Författare :Monica Llano-Diez; Lars Larsson; Marco Sandri; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute quadriplegic myopathy; intensive care unit; myosin; regulation of contraction; muscle atrophy; mechanical loading; mobilization; Clinical Neurophysiology; Klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) commonly develop severe muscle wasting and weakness and consequently impaired muscle function. This not only delays respirator weaning and ICU discharge, but has deleterious effects on morbidity, mortality, financial costs, and quality of life of survivors. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Intensive care Muscle Wasting and Weakness : Underlying Mechanisms, Muscle Specific Differences and a Specific Intervention Strategy

    Författare :Guillaume Renaud; Lars Larsson; Oliver Friedrich; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The intensive care unit (ICU) condition, i.e., immobilisation, sedation and mechanical ventilation, often results in severe muscle wasting and weakness as well as a specific acquired myopathy, i.e. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Critical illness myopathy : understanding different effects on muscle fibre function

    Författare :Hannah Ogilvie; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Skeletal muscle is an essential component of the human body, being one of the most dynamic and plastic tissues. As such it can be altered by numerous confounding factors. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Chronic anterior cruciate ligament tear : knee function and knee extensor muscle size, morphology and function before and after surgical reconstruction

    Författare :Lars-Gunnar Elmqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; knee joint; ligaments; articular; surgery; muscle fibre; isokinetics; exercise therapy; muscular atrophy; electromyography;

    Sammanfattning : Knee function was evaluated by knee score, activity level, clinical findings and performance tests, muscle size by computerized tomography (CT), morphology by light (LM) and electron microscopy (EM), muscle function by electromyography (EMG) and isokinetic performance in 29 patients with chronic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear. Preoperatively CT disclosed a significant mean atrophy of the quadriceps and nonsignificant changes of the other muscle areas of the injured leg. LÄS MER
