  1. 1. Environmental System Analysis of Waste Management : Experiences from Applications of the ORWARE Model

    Författare :Anna Björklund; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; municipal solid waste MSW ; waste management; waste management planning; model; environmental systems analysis; life cycle assessment LCA ; substance flow analysis SFA ; substance flows; environmental impact; energy; uncertainty; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Waste management has gone through a history of shiftingproblems, demands, and strategies over the years. In contrastto the long prevailing view that the problem could be solved byhiding or moving it, waste is now viewed as a problem rangingfrom local to global concern, and as being an integral part ofseveral sectors in society. Sammanfattning : Waste-management systems have progressed from landfilling and dumping to waste prevention, recycling and resource recovery. In state-of-the-art waste-management industries, waste is separated into various fractions and treated with suitable processes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Co-Combustion of Municipal Solid Waste and Animal Waste : Experiment and Simulation Studies

    Författare :Farzad Moradian; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Resursåtervinning; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Sammanfattning : Co-combustion of animal carcasses and slaughterhouse waste products (animal waste), which are classed as high-risk infectious waste, has been considered as a “fuel opportunity” for waste-to-energy boilers. In this study, the impact of co-combustion of animal waste with municipal solid waste (MSW) on operational issues such as bed agglomeration, deposit formation and emission was investigated, employing experimental and theoretical methods. Sammanfattning : Increasingly intensive efforts are being made to enhance energy systems via augmented introduction of renewable energy along with improved energy efficiency. Resource constraints and sustained high fossil fuel prices have created a new phenomenon in the world market. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Systems Aspects of Increased Swedish Waste Incineration

    Författare :Jenny Sahlin; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; biological treatment; incineration tax; waste management; waste import; value of households’ time.; waste incineration; district heating; MSW; landfilling ban; recycling;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Recent bans on landfilling of combustible and organic waste in Sweden have resulted in an increase in alternative waste treatment, especially waste incineration with energy recovery. This thesis elucidates how the current increase in Swedish waste incineration affects and is affected by the two systems to which it belongs: the waste management and the energy systems. LÄS MER
