  1. 21. Competitive performance prediction of elite alpine skiers

    Författare :Robert Nilsson; Christer B. Malm; Apostolos Theos; Ann-Sofie Lindberg; Richard A. Ferguson; Örjan Ekblom; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Competitive performance; FIS points; alpine skiing; alpine skiers; physiological test results; anthropometric variables; multivariate data analysis; multivariate statistics; principal component analysis; orthogonal projections to latent structures; individual profiling; Sports Medicine; idrottsmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was to identify physiological and anthropometric variables valid for prediction of competitive performance in alpine skiing (indicated by FIS points).Method: Paper I-III in this doctoral thesis followed an experimental, hypothesis-generating design which included both junior and senior elite alpine skiers. 2. 22. Development of analytical methods for the determination of the small molecule component of complex biological systems

    Författare :Kristian Pirttilä; Mikael Hedeland; Curt Pettersson; Torbjörn Arvidsson; Thomas Moritz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolomics; data processing; peak characterization; algorithm; multivariate data analysis; chromatography; sequential columns; HILIC; RPLC; liquid chromatography; mass spectrometry; LC; MS; noise-induced hearing loss; NIHL; guinea pig; perilymph; method development; validation; R; C ; Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Analytisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The research field of untargeted metabolomics aims to determine the relative abundance of all small metabolites in a biological system in order to find biomarkers or make biological inference with regards to the internal or external stimuli. This is no trivial aim, as the small metabolites are both vast in numbers and extremely diverse in their chemical properties. LÄS MER

  3. 23. A multivariate approach to computational molecular biology

    Författare :Fredrik Pettersson; Michael Sjöström; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PLS; PCA; biomarker; Drosophila; SNP; linkage; disequilibrium; bioinformatics; computational; molecular; biology; genomics; microarray; SELDI; proteomics; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the application of multivariate methods in analyses of genomic DNA sequences, gene expression and protein synthesis, which represent each of the steps in the central dogma of biology. The recent finalisation of large sequencing projects has given us a definable core of genetic data and large-scale methods for the dynamic quantification of gene expression and protein synthesis. 4. 24. Goodness-of-fit in Multivariate Time Series

    Författare :Huong Nguyen Thu; Campus de Getafe Facultad de Ciencias Sociales y Jurıdicas Department of Statistics Universidad Carlos III de Madrid; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : Goodness-of-fit is an important task in time series analysis. In this thesis, wepropose a new family of statistics and a new goodness-of-fit process for the wellknownmultivariate autoregressive moving average VARMA(p,q) model.Some preliminary results are studied first for an initial goodness-of-fit method. 5. 25. Isotope Ratio and Trace Element Measurements Using Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications in Environmental Forensics

    Författare :Simon Pontér; Anders Widerlund; Hjalmar Laudon; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Isotope ratio measurements; screening analysis; ICP-MS; MC-ICP-MC; multi-tracer studies; fractionation; Environmental Forensics; Tracing; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Environmental Forensics is a scientific methodology developed for identifying sources, the timing of release, and transport pathways for potentially hazardous environmental contaminants. It combines a variety of analytical methods with principles derived from disciplines such as chemistry, geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, and statistics, with the purpose to provide objective scientific and legal conclusions on the source and/or time of a contaminant release.
