  1. 1. Individual Differences in Multitasking : Support for Spatiotemporal Offloading

    Författare :Ivo Todorov; Timo Mäntylä; Fredrik Jönsson; Patrik Sörqvist; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; multitasking; cognitive offloading; cognitive functions; individual differences; executive functions; spatial ability; sex differences; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : In both the private and work spheres, multitasking among three or more activities has become and is continuing to evolve as a pervasive element of everyday life, and recent technological advances only seem to be exacerbating the process. Despite attempts to understand the mental processes that let humans successfully multitask, little is known about the functional cognitive level at which these mental processes take place. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Striking a balance : Managing collaborative multitasking in computer-supported cooperation

    Författare :Rikard Harr; Victor Kaptelinin; Mikael Wiberg; Oskar Juhlin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer-supported Cooperative Work; articulation work; individual task execution; balance; interruptions; availability; awareness; interaction; information technology; multitasking; task switching; Informatics; computer and systems science; Informatik; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a collection of six papers and a cover paper reporting an exploration of how to strike a balance between individual task execution and work articulation in Computer-supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). The interest in this theme is motivated by an increased reliance of IT-supported cooperative work arrangements in modern organizations, the fragmented layout of work for multitasking individuals and reports on various forms of overload, increased level of stress and anxiety experienced by workers active in these organizations. 3. 3. Patient safety at emergency departments : challenges with crowding, multitasking and interruptions

    Författare :Lena M Berg; Katarina Göransson; Anna Ehrenberg; Jan Florin; Jan Östergren; Birgitta Wireklint Sundström; Karolinska Institutet Solna Department of Medicine; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Several challenges with patient safety in the emergency department (ED) context have beenpreviously identified, and some commonly mentioned are crowding, multitasking, andinterruptions. The ED is a complex, high-risk work environment where multiple clinicians(physicians, registered nurses [RNs], and licensed practical nurses [LPNs]) are constantlyworking in parallel work processes, in an often crowded ED, while conducting tasksinvolving cognitively demanding decision-making processes. 4. 4. Open the door to complexity : Safety climate and work processes in the operating room

    Författare :Camilla Göras; Anna Ehrenberg; Ulrica Nilsson; Maria Unbeck; Mirjam Ekstedt; Anna Forsberg; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Patient safety; operating room; complexity; safety climate; psychometrics; cross-sectional; observations and qualitative;

    Sammanfattning : A complex adaptive system such as the operating room (OR), consists of different safety cultures, sub-cultures and ways of working. When measuring, a strong safety climate has been associated with lower rates of surgical complications. Teamwork is an important factor of safety climate. LÄS MER
