1. The kaleidoscope of communication : Different perspectives on communication involving children with severe multiple disabilities
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of six publications presenting a theoretical framework, a methodological proposal and three empirical studies. The aim of the work is; to gain knowledge on how children with severe multiple disabilities communicate with their caregivers, to analyse how different research strategies can add knowledge from different perspectives on communication, and to develop models for analysing and describing the dyadic interaction. 3. Diagnostic, prognostic and management aspects of different types of multiple sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Background: The aim in the thesis is to study diagnostic issues, clinical features, therapy, and prognosis in selected demyelinative disorders of the nervous system: optic neuritis (ON), primary progressive MS (PPMS), and tumefactive MS (a very rare acute demyelinating disorder). Methods: From an initial cohort of 110 patients with ON collected 19 to 31 years ago, a new follow-up survey was conducted in 50 patients who on a previous follow up had not developed MS. LÄS MER
4. Assessment of chest physiotherapy in children
Sammanfattning : Chest physiotherapy (CPT) is used to improve the lung function and blood gas tensions in individuals with respiratory disease. The aim of this thesis was to assess and compare immediate effects of CPT with positive expiratory pressure (PEP) and oscillating PEP (OscPEP) on blood gas tensions in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), to assess effects of CPT with PEP in severely disabled children, to describe and evaluate a new CPT method for children who cannot co-operate, and to compare obtained results with chest clapping. 5. Work and psychiatric disabilities. A person, environment, and occupation perspective on Individual Placement and Support
Sammanfattning : This thesis adds to the knowledge base of how the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) can be optimized to secure a more sustainable working career for people with severe mental illness (SMI). The thesis has given the IPS-participants an active voice about what it is like to start to work in a Swedish context, visualised the psychiatric disability in relation to work, discerned the support and process in IPS, and emphasized the employers’ experiences in an IPS-context.
