1. NMR Self-Diffusion Studies and Stability Studies of Emulsions
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to characterize emulsion systems by self-diffusion PGSE NMR methods. The specifics of the emulsions studied are all taken from the literature and they are of the W/O or O/W type stabilized with different emulsifiers. LÄS MER
2. Perfluorocarbon microdroplets stabilized by cellulose nanofibers : Toward ultrasound-mediated diagnostics and therapy
Sammanfattning : Ultrasound contrast agents consist of gas-filled micrometer-sized bubbles that are injectedinto the blood stream. Ultrasound contrast agents are an invaluable tool for ultrasound imaging of the cardiac muscle and highly vascularized structures such as kidneys and the liver. LÄS MER
3. Cholestasis in infants at risk
Sammanfattning : Cholestasis is a condition when bile flow from the liver to the intestines is impaired. Unresolved, it may lead to liver transplantation or death. Overall, it affects 1 out of 2500 term infants, but is far more common in high-risk infants with other conditions such as prematurity and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN). LÄS MER
4. A microfluidic toolbox to fabricate, sort and characterize thermoresponsive colloidal molecules and their assemblies
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we discuss the assembly of thermoresponsive microgel particles into small clusters, and their use as colloidal molecules with specific and directional interactions. The underlying goal is to use these particles as advanced building blocks for new types of self- assembled structures with novel or vastly improved properties, and as model particles for investigating fundamental problems in condensed matter physics. 5. Environment-Sensitive Multifunctional Drug Delivery Systems
Sammanfattning : Drug delivery systems (DDS) with multiple functionalities such as environment-sensitive drug release mechanisms and visualization agents have motivated the biomedical community as well as materials chemists for more than a decade. This dissertation is concerned with the development of nanoparticles for multifunctional DDS to tackle several crucial challenges in these complex systems, including polymeric nanospheres which respond to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles/polymeric composite for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents and drug carriers, immunoresponse of nanomaterials and injectable magnetic field sensitive ferrogels.
