1. Prediction of Chloride Penetration into Saturated Concrete Multi-Species Approach
Sammanfattning : The cost due to rehabilitation of corroded reinforced concrete structures is a worldwide matter of concern. The mechanisms of reaction-diffusion involved during the transport of chloride ions into saturated concrete, which are initiating the corrosion process, are therefore studied in this thesis. LÄS MER
2. Multi-species systems in optical lattices : From orbital physics in excited bands to effects of disorder
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we explore different aspects of the physics of multi-species atomic systems in optical lattices. In the first part we will study cold gases in the first and second excited bands of optical lattices - the p and d bands. LÄS MER
3. Impacts of multi-species deer communities on boreal forests across ecological and management scales
Sammanfattning : During the past decades, the population density and distribution of deer (Cervidae) has increased across Europe. Particularly in Sweden, this led to an increased cooccurrence of several deer species in landscapes highly dominated by humans. LÄS MER
4. Microalgae : future bioresource of the sea?
Sammanfattning : Unicellular microalgae are a renewable bioresource that can meet the challenge forfood and energy in a growing world population. Using sunlight, CO2, nutrients, and water, algal cells produce biomass in the form of sugars, proteins and oils, allof which carry commercial value as food, feed and bioenergy. LÄS MER
5. From pattern to process : Studies on limestone grassland, with emphasis on the bryophyte-lichen layer and its effects on vascular plants
Sammanfattning : Patterns in space and time at different scales in the bryophyte-lichen layer, aud multi-species spatial patterns of bryophytes, lichens and vascular plants were studied in Avenetum limestone grassland on the Great Alvar of the Baltic Island of Öland, south-eastem Sweden.Spatiotemporal patterns of bryophytes and Iichens in grazed and ungrazed alvar grassland demonstrated that dominant species forming large patches were relatively stable in time, whereas less frequent species forming small patches were more mobile.
