  1. 1. Upper Airway Mucosal Inflammation : Proteomic Studies after Exposure to Irritants and Microbial Agents

    Författare :Louise Fornander; Mats Lindahl; Bijar Ghafouri; Pål Graff; Magnus Svartengren; Linköpings universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : People are, in their daily lives, exposed to a number of airborne foreign compounds that do not normally affect the body. However, depending on the nature of these compounds, dose and duration of exposure, various airway symptoms may arise. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mucosal adjuvants and their mode of action in the female genital tract

    Författare :Madelene Lindqvist; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []

    Sammanfattning : Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) cause a socioeconomic burden, morbidity and even mortality in a large part of the human population all over the world today. One of the most common genital ulcerative diseases is caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 with over 536 million people infected world-wide. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The human stomach normally contains high levels of bioactive nitric oxide (NO). This NO derives from salivary nitrate (NO3-) that is converted to nitrite (NO2-) by oral bacteria and thereafter non-enzymatically reduced in the acidic gastric lumen to NO. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The gastrointestinal tract has two opposing functions; to absorb nutrients and electrolytes, and to act as a barrier towards hazardous and non-nutritional substances. In the present thesis the barrier function of the gastrointestinal tract was studied in animal models in vivo, in situ and in vitro. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ulcerative colitis : Imaging of inflammation

    Författare :Sven Almer; Vibeke Binder; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflannnatory disorder of unknown origin engaging the large bowel. Based on the need for accurate assessment of inflammation, three different non-invasive techniques, two leukocyte scintigraphy techniques and one radiological method, were evaluated in the assessment of active inflammation in altogether 131 patients with ulcerative colitis.
