6. Starch Microparticles as an Oral Vaccine Adjuvant with Emphasis on the Differentiation of the Immune Response
Sammanfattning : Polyacryl starch microparticles have been developed as an oral vaccine adjuvant capable of inducing strong local and systemic immune responses in mice. In this thesis, the starch microparticles were studied in order to increase basic understanding of their function. LÄS MER
7. Studies on the immuno-modulating properties of the cholera toxin A1-based fusion protein CTA1-DD
Sammanfattning : The present work was aimed at exploring the immuno-modulating properties of the novel cholera toxin (CT)-based vaccine adjuvant CTA1-DD, which combines the full enzymatic activity of the A1 subunit of CT with B cell targeting. We have studied the efficacy of the CTA1-DD adjuvant to enhance immune responses in mice after nasal administration. LÄS MER
8. Mast cells: bad enemies or good friends? : A study of the effects of IgG immune complexes on mast cell biology
Sammanfattning : Mast cells are classically defined as bad enemies to human health due to their critical involvement in IgE-dependent allergy by virtue of the expression of the high affinity IgE receptor, FcgammaRI, on these cells. However, mouse mast cells also express FcgammaRIIB and FcgammaRIIIA, two receptors that bind IgG especially in the form of IgG immune complexes. LÄS MER
9. Development of novel immunization approaches to generate immunity in the female genital tract with special reference to genital herpes
Sammanfattning : Development of mucosal vaccines for inducing immunity in the female reproductive tract would have profound implications for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Despite numerous efforts, no such vaccines are currently available for human use. LÄS MER
10. Mucosal adjuvants and their mode of action in the female genital tract
Sammanfattning : Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) cause a socioeconomic burden, morbidity and even mortality in a large part of the human population all over the world today. One of the most common genital ulcerative diseases is caused by herpes simplex virus type 2 with over 536 million people infected world-wide. LÄS MER
