16. The search for reversibility of Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus : Aspects on intracranial pressure measurments and CSF volume alteration
Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) is still a syndrome generating more questions than answers. Today, research focuses mainly on two areas: understanding the pathophysiology – especially how the malfunctioning CSF system affects the brain parenchyma – and finding better methods to select patients benefiting from a shunt operation. 17. A sensory role for the cruciate ligaments : regulation of joint stability via reflexes onto the γ-muscle-spindle system
Sammanfattning : Reflex effects evoked by graded electrical stimulation of the posterior articular nerves (PAN) of the ipsi- and contralateral knee joints were investigated using both micro-electrode recordings from 7 - motoneurones and recordings from single muscle muscle spindle afferents. Spindle afferent responses were also recorded using natural stimulation of different types of receptors, to elucidate if the articular reflexes onto the y -motoneurones were potent enough to significantly alter the muscle spindle afferent activity. 18. Identification of pathways of degeneration and protection in motor neuron diseases
Sammanfattning : Motor neuron diseases preferentially affect specific neuronal populations with distinct clinical features even if disease-causing genes are expressed in many cell types. In spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), somatic motor neurons are selectively vulnerable to a deficiency in the broadly expressed survival of motor neuron 1 (SMN1) gene. LÄS MER
19. Generation and selection of motor behaviors neural circuits and endocannabinoid modulation
Sammanfattning : The generation of basic motor behavior relies on the activation of spinal neuronal networks called central pattern generators (CPGs). Descending drive from higher brain areas activates the spinal CPG to generate motor behavior. In the face of changes in the environment, animals make constant motor behavioral selection. LÄS MER
20. Voluntary activation of skeletal muscle in young and old women and men
Sammanfattning : The evaluation of skeletal muscle strength is an important part of the physiotherapist’s clinical examination in order to plan and execute appropriate interventions. This requires the objective assessment of muscle strength and the determination of the underlying factors of muscle weakness. LÄS MER
