  1. 1. Spinal cord stimulation in neuropathy : experimental studies of biochemistry and behaviour

    Författare :Jian-Guo Cui; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Neuropathic pain; mononeuropathy; GABA; glutamate; aspartate; galanin; neuropeptide Y; adenosine; spinal cord stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropathic pain, presenting with cutaneous hypersensitivity, i.e. allodynia, dysesthesia and hyperalgesia, is often difficult to manage with pharmacotherapy, but may be effectively alleviated by electric spinal cord stimulation (SCS). However, the mode of action of SCS is still poorly understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Behavioural and neurochemical effects and changes in gene expression in inflammatory and neuropathic pain

    Författare :Eva Schött; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Inflammatory pain; neuropathic pain; pain-related behaviour; weight bearing; preemptive analgesia; immediate early genes; substance P; dynorphin; cholecystokinin; microdialysis;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic pain is a common clinical problem, which causes great suffering, and there is a great need for better analgesic drugs and strategies to counteract the transition of acute pain into chronic pain states. In studies of neurochemical mechanisms in animal models of chronic pain it is important to study also the development of spontaneous pain-related behaviour and sensory abnormalities (i. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Role of calcitonin gene-related peptide in nociception : interactions with substance P and opioids

    Författare :Long-Chuan Yu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Calcitonin gene-related peptide CGRP ; CGRP8-37; CGRP-like immunoreactivity; carrageenan; dorsal horn; dorsal root ganglion DRG ; experimentally-induced inflammtion ß-funaltrexamine ß-FNA ; hindpaw withdrawl latency HWL ; hot-plate test; ;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a study of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and its antagonist CGRP8-37 and the interactions with substance P and opioids on the transmission of presumed nociceptive information at the spinal cord level in the rat. Significant bilateral increases in hindpaw withdrawal latency (HWL) to heat and mechanical stimulation were induced dose-dependently by intrathecal administration of 5 or 10 but no 1 nmol of CGRP8-37.
