  1. 16. Modulators of UCP1-dependent thermogenesis : Glucocorticoids, diet and novel research models

    Författare :Ineke H. N. Luijten; Jan Nedergaard; Onno Meijer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; brown adipose tissue; UCP1; glucocorticoids; diet-induced thermogenesis; obesity; physiology; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : The activation and recruitment of brown adipose tissue (BAT) thermogenesis has been put forward as a promising strategy to reduce the disease burden of obesity and obesity-related diseases. Heat production by BAT can be attributed to the tissue-specific mitochondrial uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1). LÄS MER

  2. 17. Molecular Approaches to Explore Drug-Target Interactions

    Författare :Abdullah Al-Amin; Ulf Landegren; Christopher Schofield; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Drug discovery; target engagement; target engagement-mediated amplification; cellular thermal shift assay; proximity extension assay; in situ PLA; high-content imaging; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Improved means to assess the clinical potential of drug candidates can critically influence development of new therapeutic entities, a central aim in medical life science. Drug discovery and development relies on construction and selection of small organic compounds or biological agents that bind targets of interest. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Non-invasive monitoring of low molecular weight biomarkers relevant to skin inflammation and cancer

    Författare :Skaidre Jankovskaja; Tautgirdas Ruzgas; Johan Engblom; György Marko-Varga; Melinda Rezeli; Pawel Lukasz Urban; Malmö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tryptophan; Kynurenine; Phenylalanine; Tyrosine; Low molecular Weight Biomarkers; Non-Invasive; Skin Surface Sampling; Skin Permeability; Hydrogels; Prussian White; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Sammanfattning : Development of skin inflammation and cancer in viable epidermis and dermis involve slow molecular weight (LMW) metabolites. We hypothesize that these LMW compounds can be collected on the surface of the skin and used for non-invasive diagnostics of skin disorders. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Chiral Separation of Amines by Non-Aqueous Capillary Electrophoresis using Low Molecular Weight Selectors

    Författare :Ylva Hedeland; Curt Pettersson; Ulf Bondesson; Lars Blomberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Chiral Separation; Non-Aqueous Capillary Electrophoresis; Enantioresolution; Electro-osmotic Flow; Pharmaceuticals; Enantiomeric Amines; Low Molecular Weight Selector; Farmaceutisk kemi; Kemi med inriktning mot analytisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Analytical Chemistry; Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Analytisk farmaceutisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Three chiral selectors (diketogulonic acid, benzoxycarbonylglycylproline and ketopinic acid) have been introduced for enantioseparation of pharmacologically active amines in non-aqueous capillary electrophoresis. The use of organic solvents, instead of aqueous buffers in the background electrolyte facilitated ion-pair formation between the analytes and the chiral selectors. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Effects of Processing on Dietary Fibre in Vegetables

    Författare :Maria Svanberg; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; low molecular weight carbohydrates; carrot cultivars; molecular weight distribution; viscosity; water-soluble polysaccharides; processing; Dietary fibre; vegetables; bulking capacity; rats; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Several beneficial effects have been connected with dietary fibre. Insoluble fibre has a good faecal bulking capacity, whereas soluble and viscous dietary fibre has been shown to have beneficial effects on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. LÄS MER
