1. Tracing History : Phylogenetic, Taxonomic, and Biogeographic Research in the Colchicum Family
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the history and the intrafamilial delimitations of the plant family Colchicaceae. A phylogeny of 73 taxa representing all genera of Colchicaceae, except the monotypic Kuntheria, is presented. LÄS MER
2. microRNAs: from biogenesis to organismal tracing
Sammanfattning : MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short noncoding RNAs of around 22 nucleotides in length, which help to shape the expression of most mRNAs. Perturbation of miRNA expression has revealed a variety of defects in development, cell specification, physiology and behavior. LÄS MER
3. Norovirus Tracing in Environmental and Outbreak Settings - Experiences of waterborne, foodborne and nosocomial transmission
Sammanfattning : Noroviruses (NoV), a major cause of acute gastroenteritis in hospital settings, also occur as sporadic infections or periodic non-seasonal community outbreaks. Human NoV replicates to high concentration in the intestinal tract, is readily transmitted by the faecal-oral route, hand-to-hand contact, contaminated food and water, and by aerosols. LÄS MER
4. Molecular epidemiology of verotoxigenic Escherichia coli O157:H7
Sammanfattning : Verotoxigenic E. coli (VTEC) O157:H7 is a zoonotic disease agent with asymptomatic ruminants such as cattle and sheep as reservoir hosts. Infection in humans can cause bloody diarrhoea with occasionally fatal complications such as haemolytic-uraemic syndrome (HUS), particularly in children. LÄS MER
5. Tracing cosmic magnetic fields using molecules
Sammanfattning : Understanding the magnetic field strength and morphology of astrophysical regions is of great importance to understand their dynamics. There exist a number of methods astronomers can employ to trace magnetic field structures, and each have their own limitations. This thesis focuses on tracing magnetic field using molecules. LÄS MER
