16. Bound by long-range interactions: Molecular crystals and benzene on Cu(111)
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates molecular systems bound by long-range interactions. Westudy molecular crystals held together by van der Waals forces and the physisorption of benzene (Bz) on Cu(111). LÄS MER
17. Microscopic Modeling of Exciton Propagation and Dissociation in Two-Dimensional Materials
Sammanfattning : Atomically thin materials have been in the spotlight of research during the last decade due to their exceptional properties, providing a platform for the study of novel physical phenomena. In particular, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have emerged as promising atomically thin materials for future optoelectronic applications owing to their strong light-matter interaction and their high tunability. 18. Hydrogen Bonding in Liquid Alcohols
Sammanfattning : Hydrogen bonded (H-bonded) materials, such as water, alcohols, sugars, and even DNA, are extremely important for biology, as well as chemical industry. Alcohols are used as solvents in paints, in perfumes, as cleaners, anti-freezers, or as an alternative to petrol in combustion engines. LÄS MER
19. Non-linear attosecond physics at 100 eV
Sammanfattning : Non-linear interactions between light and matter have nowadays a broad range of applications. They are used for frequency doubling in simple laser pointers as well as for a variety of purposes in complex laser systems like the one presented in this thesis. LÄS MER
20. Effect of Substrate on Bottom-Up Fabrication and Electronic Properties of Graphene Nanoribbons
Sammanfattning : Taking into account the technological demand for the controlled preparation of atomically precise graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) with well-defined properties, the present thesis is focused on the investigation of the role of the underlying metal substrate in the process of building GNRs using bottom-up strategy and on the changes in the electronic structure of GNRs induced by the GNR-metal interaction. The combination of surface sensitive synchrotron-radiation-based spectroscopic techniques and scanning tunneling microscopy with in situ sample preparation allowed to trace evolution of the structural and electronic properties of the investigated systems.
